About Dwarves & Dungeons
✦ AI summary
Connect lines to match gems, defeat enemies, and collect coins in this roguelike twist on match-3 gameplay where every action feeds into building your character's power and base. Pick from three uniquely-styled characters with distinct mechanics and runes, grab random event bonuses mid-battle, and spend your spoils upgrading your home base to tackle tougher dungeons.
Dwarves & Dungeons official version is finally here! There are currently three available characters, four maps with corresponding enemies and bosses. The game innovates based on match-3 gameplay, combining elements from rogue-like games to bring a unique and fresh experience.

In Dwarves & Dungeons, everything revolves around connecting lines, whether it's gathering strength to eliminate enemies, fortifying defense to stay away from danger, or picking up coins for future planning. Achieving these tasks all requires the connecting. Characters can gain experience points and level up after long-distance connections, learning beneficial skills along the way.

The third character, the Warlock, is finally out! There are now three selectable characters, each with completely different mechanics, runes, and combat styles.

Get new runes during battles and make your own build to connect lines, eliminate enemies, and collect coins more efficiently.

Various types of random events will occur on the game board. Some may enhance your Status, while others can update runes. But act quickly; once the time is up, they disappear.

Whether victorious or not in battles, all collected coins can be used to construct the basement. Upgrade the blacksmith shop, craft scrolls in the workshop, strengthen basic Status in the cabin... Utilize the various facilities in the base to make adventures easier.
This game was initially inspired by the famous game: Dungeon Raid.

Can't give this one a thumbs up, though I would like to, but it is simply grossly under explained. For example, there is a glossary of monsters, but it only lists their names, not their stats an abilities, what was the point? I also a not sure everything works, but the pistol is supposed to have a range of two, but for what? it doesn't shoot two, it doesn't let me move two, what does that mean? I even had an ability that gave me a little extra damage with a long distance attack, but there doesn't seem to be a long distance attack. Also, contrary to expectation, making the longest chains is simply not in your best interests, that I can see. Everything over your max is wasted, except for coins. And there are random encounter-like squares you can take, but most of them seem to do nothing. Some give you a new card, which is nice, but most, like the fountain and the gym, have been duds. There are three classes, but no real clue what they do. One collects steam, but I have no clue what that steam is good for, or what it might do. Baffling. It feels like there might be a game there, and if it was explained there might be a fun game here, but it is hidden, and not my responsibility to p…1 found this helpful
Not rewarding at all. I don't know how to attack from afar, but there are runes that boost your range damage? I have played through the tutorial, I couldn't read a speech bubble that was about attacking, because it got replaced automatically by the next line of text. Spelling is broken. Music is annoying. Art is so-so. Some special cards can be connected to each other with basic cards, but I couldn't recall if syringe was potion for example.
Yeaaaaaah.......big NO on this one. Bosses and major enemies can move several steps ahead or behind me and shoot from range but I'm stuck doing just melee ? And there's just one of me? Absolutely unfair gameplay mechanic. Refund requested. Do not buy. Game isn't fair and isn't like the video above either. Sad to say.
Good gameplay concept, one of the most boring roguelite executions
When I first discovered Dwarves & Dungeons with it's gameplay loop about drawing line between all matching materials (attack, shield, coin or health) and with description of having roguelite genre attached to it, I knew I wanted to give it a try. However, despite giving it four hours chance to get me interested, I'm way too bored with this product to continue. So what a game with a good gameplay loop has to fumble in roguelite genre to bore out even a long time fan of the genre? Well for a start, player classes are boring; the first one of three available classes is clearly the most effective one, while second and third class are clearly under powered compared to the first one. Then the limited moves "pick-ups" like training dull, "You swing the sword in wrong way and failed to learn anything?" what the h### is point of that when you already have limited time to get there?? And when you actually get some kind of choose? They are laughably lame options, "Make 3% more damage against bosses" sounds something written on forced Games as a service-video game's loot. And top of it all to fail in *lite* aspec…
This game highlights why there should be a neutral recommendation option on Steam. It's not bad, just lacks content and every aspect feels like a less polished version of Dungeon Wizard or Troll Patrol. If you've 100%-ed those games, this one might still offer some fun—especially if you can grab it during a sale. For those unfamiliar with similar titles, the gameplay might still appeal, but there are other options that execute the match-3 mechanics with greater depth and refinement. This just feels unfinished.
For more match-3 game recommendations, check out this curator page: here <3. Can't stop to match 3 review #4.
The game play loop is about as simple as you can get. You'll need some thought investment per run given the tile randomness, and the base upgrades are more of a grind past a certain point. I wish there was a more detailed volume control, but given the price tag, it is what it is. Also, board seeds can create nightmare tile sets.
