Players praise Smite as genuinely fun and good value for a free-to-play game, but are deeply frustrated with Hi-Rez's handling of the franchise, particularly the transition to Smite 2—citing abandoned content, non-transferable cosmetics that players paid for, severe performance issues, and perceived neglect of the original game in favor of a buggy sequel that players consider worse overall.
HiRez tricked its community into buying skins, etc. to support Smite 1, then refused to carry it over to their incomplete garbage of a game Smite 2, while slowing and secretly letting Smite 1 die. Incompetent crooks.8 found this helpful

Hi Rez has abandoned the game. the only reason I can imagine they haven't shut servers down is they still get people buying gems off it. If you haven't tried the game before don't bother now and also don't try the 2nd version it's much worse than this one bugs and all it has in it.
