[h1]Circular Reasoning[/h1] [h2]Story[/h2] The main character is Prince Eldar of Onnya, who seeks to prove himself worthy of the throne by research the legend of the hero and finding a way to defeat the legendary villain. At first, he's a spoiled brat who cares more about the glory of solving the legend than his actual duties as a prince. In a twist, [spoiler]his research causes him to learn of many truths that were censored by his government and how his kingdom actually perpetrated many injustices against Llooan and the zsagni. Thanks to his travels teaching him more perspectives, Eldar now actually gains a purpose as a royal, making this a roundabout way of becoming a worthy king. However, he also put himself in a position where he might not be able to gain the political power needed to bring justice to Onnya's victims[/spoiler]. This game's aesop seems to be that although people have to focus on their duties, sometimes it's alright to indulge in one's own wants and needs if their current life isn't working out for them. I won this game in a Twitter giveaway, but would have happily paid full price for this game. It's a cute, fun, turn-based jrpg with solid pixel art and a fantastic story and musical score. The gameplay is linear, and once you leave an area you can't return, so be sure to complete all side quests before moving on! Not a complaint, just a heads-up. There are some slight translation errors, but nothing that would detract from the story/experience in any way. The game also is harder than similar games, and makes you actually use those items you keep in your inventory. No forgetting until the end here! Overall, it's a satisfying game, made with love. I hope to see more from the developers; they did a great job!!!

I originally played this during Early Access, and while I have not yet gotten back to it since the full release, I enjoyed what I did play enough to recommend it. A very classic style RPG that doesn't seem to take itself TOO seriously, with solid music and characters. I'm not going to oversell it like "This is just like YOUR favorite RPG and you will die if you don't play it," but it's good, certainly worth if you catch it on sale.

I definitely don’t understand the negative reviews. I loved almost everything about this game, and you can tell how much hard work went into everything about it. Its gorgeous pixel art is pleasing to the eye, and the story is interesting enough to carry you through the length of the game (and it’s a pretty lengthy game…not Chained Echoes-lengthy, but certainly long enough). Most of the battles were fair, and although I personally had to grind some to keep up with the increase in enemy difficulty as the game went on, the game does actually give you a more-than-fair “flee” option that always works—even on bosses. If you like pixel JRPG games, you really should check this one out too. I came across it purely by accident, and it was MORE than a pleasant surprise to me.

I really enjoyed the game overall. It really had the old-school turn-based RPG feel to it. There are still some bugs, though: - Last Axe to break the wood disappeared from my inventory at some point so when I revisited the area, I could not break the last log, so I have to replay the game and not miss it if I want the achievements. - There was a side quest that I complete, I have the special reward item, but the quest is listed under "Forgotten" So another Achievement I can not complete. - There were also some Spanish text even though the game is set to English.

Would be a mixed recommendation if allowed, but I can't really give it a thumbs up. POOR: EXPLORATION, PACING Restricts where you can go + doesn't allow backtracking + doesn't provide any warning before its frequent points of no return = frustrating Map design is decent, but they are all full of generic enemies where you perform repetitive generic fetch quests as sidequests I started to feel like a rat in a very boring maze NOT GREAT: MOST COMBAT, CHARACTER ADVANCEMENT, GAME FLOW, SOME BUGS Generic abilities + slow pacing Generic, predictable equipment progression Spell levelling is painful due to the slow pacing Little pauses inserted everywhere make a lot of things take slightly too long Keyboard remapping option is there but doesn't work, a few other small bugs DECENT: BOSS COMBAT, STORY Decent boss design ATB system with CT and autopause is good, even if the game doesn't take advantage of it with how it can interact with abilities or equipment at all Good visual/conceptual variety of characters even if mechanically they aren't that distinct Writing is decent, if plagued by some translation problems (the oil status effect "impregnates you with oil" and makes you "inflammable"…
