The year is 1992. Eyeing the surging video game market, electronics giant TEC rushes to develop the Redshift, a microdisc-based gaming handheld.
Underpowered even before it was released, and with a gimmicky 3D mode that gave users headaches when used for longer than a few minutes, the Redshift was widely panned and became an expensive flop.
But the story doesn’t end there. Now, in 1997, the Redshift is a popular hackable device, easy to find in bargain bins and at garage sales. The Redshift homebrew scene begins to grow as hackers swap tips and trade increasingly clever homebrew games that push the hardware to its limits.
All of this is of absolutely no benefit to TEC, who never made another game console again.

10/10, after messing around with it for a bit and having to acquire the png file through means different than the filehoster of facebook messenger, this app allowed me to play the best game ever created, "NEW SOLUTION 1". Without even getting started on the game itself, the title is already poetic. The capital letters symbolise boldness, the creator was clearly unafraid of being seen and heard (and misunderstood, as the game itself (as you'll soon find out) is a genre-bending masterpiece few will have the mental capacity to even attempt to grasp in its ingenuity and vastness). Then, let us examine the words themselves. "NEW". Not only is this game a new product, it will remain new forevermore. I do believe in a few hundred, nay, thousand(!) years every school child in the world will have to play and interpret this game for their literature class. 'Tis as Homer's "Odyssey" or the Greek mythos, a work of art that will stay fresh for eternity and which will have new lessons to teach each time it is experienced. A really good standalone application for players who just want to try out the TEC Redshift Player and build their own games. The only things I wish the developer would add are: 1. command-line arguments to launch the png games, besides drag-and-drop (useful for emulator frontends) 2. cmd arguments for launching the games are slow or fast speed 3. have a fullscreen option for the TEC Redshift screen only) Hopefully the dev see this and would consider these options, there are a lot of games to try out that are not well-known, and having some QOL additions I think would help.
Ability to develop games with EXAPUNKS makes this game even more special. It's great I can share my games with people for free. Love this idea.
