Exogate Initiative

currently 6.5/10 so I technically recommend it. Pros, fantastic management sim with interesting dialogue writing and easy to pick up mechanics. Feels like a fun combo of xcom meets evil geniuses using a great value stargate Cons, many quality of life irks mostly but so far no major bugs or game stopping difficulty, just grindy setbacks that are fun vampires. somewhat micromanagey with crew placement like how you have to assign doctors and diplomats to specific desks whereas other games would fill the empty space with whoever was available, had issues with soldiers not going to their positions during raids and getting locked in the halls even after being directed and characters randomly forgetting they had a bed or locker and having to reassign them their own stuff, can't cancel a mining mission if they're on their way out or schedule the mission to stop after a certain amount of resources harvested. as it stands it feels like a complete incomplete game or a very fun first draft. hopefully there'll be some updates, but i think I'd have more fun with something like evil geniuses or x-com instead of this happy middleground between the two

Ive enjoyed it. I was a fan of SG1 so its got nostalgia vibes (its deffo not Stargate ;] ) Just over 20 hours now and the nostalgia is starting to wear off a bit. Its still fun but it feels like the loop is starting to get repetitive and i've ran out of content. For that id say only get it on sale as judging from comments there probs wont be any more content going forward.

It's a cool concept that's unfortunately not executed all that well. It was probably fun for maybe the first 2 hours or so where I hadn't really figured out the game mechanics yet, but after about 10 hours it started to get pretty tedious. The game is never really all that hard, even once combat begins in earnest. There's no difficult choices. Where you might normally consider the tech tree to be a source of difficult choice, instead the game puts tech tree choice on rails by having the committee spell out what you should do next. Power allocation ends up being the closest thing in the game to an actual source of choices matter and it's just tedious. Money grows on trees apparently, so you just need to build as much power as you possibly can stuff into your base. Team composition requires two brain cells to figure out. I don't know, there just wasn't enough to hold my interest.

It's Evil Genius, except you're in charge of SG-1 instead of S.P.E.C.T.R.E. Pretty good fun, though it's held back from true greatness by some repetition, animation jank and the annoying real time combat segments. Thankfully, the Freeplay mode gives the option to turn the latter off.

I suspected this game would be problematic for me when the opening sentence from the devs told me that they appreciate how much their customers enjoy figuring things out on their own, so they won't bore me with a long tutorial... what a crock of S#*t. As a result of "finding things out on my own" I've had to restart the game three times because I wasn't provided with much needed information. Now, after investing a decent amount of time, I may need to restart yet again because the devs know that I love "figuring things out on my own."

A fun little take on stargate. If you're after a 'pure' SG game this is not it, but the idea of going out and exploring is very much present. Combat is a core part of the game you can't avoid but it's not the be all and end all. It's basically a simple dungeon keeper game with a 4X layer added. Each layer works fine and presents enough variety to keep you going for at least one run through- but there wasn't enough depth for me to warrant a second play through. That first play through was a good time though and I found the mission events very well written with some fun sci-fi concepts and ideas all presented in an off the cuff manner. References abound from the subtle to the obvious but are usually worked in well and don't draw attention to themselves. You'll just be reading text and get a little smile from a choice of words rather than be subjected to five minutes of 'did you get my clever reference'. Much appreciated, reference humour writers take note. The user experience is a little janky and lacks some modern expectations, but so long as you learn how the game works and where it keeps different options there's always a 'proper' way to do what you want quickly as well as q…
