Fall of Porcupine

Despite some really touching moments, most of the story is flat, not to mention that it lacks an actual ending, leaving a ton of unanswered questions and a game that feels incomplete. Just like the story, the gameplay has some good moments, some minigames are actually fun, but for the most part it's just painfully slow, and there are way more bugs than you'd expect to see in a 2D game that costs 20 dollars. Sadly, the game falls short of its potential, it's not garbage, but it's not worth 20 bucks either.

Great Game.

It's a cute game with beautiful artstyle and memorable characters. There are a few bugs, most of which were either controls not always working when interacting with the phone for example or some of the dialogue being off-screen at times, but none of it stopped me from playing through the game. Overall I feel like the game could have been a bit more polished which could be the difference between a good game and a great one. If you decide to pick it up I heavily recommend playing through the demo first which is actually the prologue of the game and sadly isn't included in the main game. Hopefully someday it will receive update to fix the minor bugs and give it the polish it deserves. I personally liked the world of Porcupine and it's citizens and would love to play another game from the developers that either continues the story or is completely separate from it, but takes place in the same world. A really pleasant surprise. I'm a huge Night In The Woods fan and was aware beforehand that there'd be similarities. There's definitely a lot borrowed from the game and it's the closest thing to a true NITW-like that I've ever found but I do also feel like it stands really well on its own. Wonderful autumnal atmosphere, lovely music, even really liked the ambient sounds of the hospital and the bar. I grew really fond of the characters over the course of the game, they're nicely written and complex without being too obvious about it. The fisherman by the river and Alfio were real highlights. It genuinely made me giggle at times too, there were some really charming humorous moments. There were a couple of noticeable bugs here and there (there have been a lot of complaints about the stethoscope minigame which I can't disagree with) but it didn't detract from the overall experience. I honestly didn't mind the ending either but I'm generally alright with endings that leave a lot to the imagination and there's a whole world that this game offers for you to wonder about. I loved this game so much. It's been a while since I played but I still think about it a lot and wish there was another to play. The music (when it didn't glitch oops) was a perfect fit and the art style was so simple yet so unique for each character. Speaking of the characters, they were all completely different from one another and didn't feel repetitive at all. I also really enjoyed the minigames! For a cosy game, the story is very deep and honestly the ending was really surprising. I admire that the game was created with health workers in mind to show how difficult it can be to work in a hospital. I work at a busy hospital myself, although I work in the path lab, and I constantly see doctors and nurses struggling with the work load then hear all the patients and visitors complaining about waiting times etc. More often than not we are all working as fast as we can! I think it's amazing that a game was made to bring attention to this! Fall of Porcupine is a cozy, heartfelt narrative game that follows Finley, a young pigeon beginning his career as a doctor in the small town of Porcupine. You spend your days treating patients through mini games, learning their stories, and slowly uncovering the town’s deeper struggles. There’s a mental health disclaimer at the start, but I didn’t find the themes overwhelming. The game deals with real-life issues in a grounded, relatable way rather than feeling heavy. Some of the mini games were more difficult than I expected, and I eventually turned on the simplified mini game option in the accessibility menu, which made the experience much smoother. The characters are charming, the town feels lived-in, and the story does a great job pulling you into Finley’s new life. That’s why the ending felt abrupt. Mr. Heidrich being arrested does give some closure, but letting Theobald die without much buildup or emotional processing made the story feel like it stopped rather than concluded.
