About Firegirl: Hack 'n Splash Rescue DX

Now available as the new and improved Firegirl: Hack 'n Splash Rescue DX definitive edition!

Take on the role of a young rescue officer starting her career. Armed with a trusty axe and high-pressure fire hose that also acts as a jetpack, Firegirl responds to emergency calls across the city. Can Firegirl save all the trapped civilians caught in each blaze? Can she uncover the truth of why these fires have engulfed the city? Find out in a mystery that goes all the way to the top…
Respond to new fires in procedurally generated levels across forests, lavish hotels, trains and apartment blocks.
When Firegirl arrives on the scene, she only has a few minutes to save all the civilians caught in the blaze! Douse roaring flames, chop through obstacles and extinguish dastardly pyro-monsters, use your hose to boost your jumps and reach high places to rescue trapped survivors (and cats).
Hang out at the Firehouse between missions to upgrade your equipment and hire new staff. You'll need all the help you can't get to prepare for your next mission!

Feels like it wants to be a casual, chill game, but it ends up being more frustrating than relaxing. Great concept, poor execution, with too many unpolished elements. The art and animations are nice, and the sound design does its job, but it clashes with a strange stripped-down UI that feels unfinished. The biggest issue is the gameplay loop. After an hour, I already felt stuck replaying the apartment level over and over again. Doing the same mission 10 times was boring, 20 times became frustrating. I eventually got the burning train mission, only to die quickly because the camera angle (2,5D) made the landing zone hard to read. Maybe the apartment layouts are intentionally maze-like, forcing you to choose between saving yourself or civilians, but honestly, I’m not playing The Witcher here.

A real gem for sure. Usually I don't play "firefighter" simulations but this one is more like Ghostbusters in that you are extinguishing fire demons and collecting tomes to seal the demons. The general "feel" of this game is just wonderful, as you use the hose as both a weapon and a sort of jet to propel your character upwards. The 2D sprites on top of the 3D backgrounds look wonderful, and the game never gets old even though you are essentially doing the same thing on each stage. There is a steep learning curve in the beginning, and your character is a lot weaker. As you progress, you pick up recruits who give you additional benefits. Some will grant you additional cash for completing missions while others will increase health or signal where people you need to save are located. It's actually really well done for what it is. The only issue is that sometimes I couldn't pull the level for the progression I needed to complete and had to quit and restart. That may be unavoidable, as you can't have a "stage select" in a game about abrupt emergency fires. Eventually you will get money for better equipment and upgrades that make the game significantly easier. The only hard thing about …

Good Game, the graphics are a nice blend of pixel and 2.5D, and the story is fine, and gameplay is fun
