Flower Survivors

One of the coolest things about this game is that when you go into the Hero Info screen during gameplay, you can hover over the stats and a tooltip pops up that explains what they do. I wanted to mention this first as I really appreciate that. The gameplay for Flower Survivors has you choose your character for a 15 minute run where you kill enemies and gather exp and chests to make yourself stronger in order to defeat the boss at the end of the 15 minute timer. When you level up or pick a chest you are given 3 options to choose between with a limited amount of rerolls to reroll the selection. All you need to do is run and dodge enemies and projectiles as your character will auto aim and auto attack. Funnily enough, during boss fights if you are too far from the boss, your character will not attack meaning you have to get in close enough. Interestingly you can gain fame at the end of your runs and the higher it goes the more you unlocks such as: new characters to play, images in the gallery and hero unique effects etc. Each hero has 3 different active skills and 3 different passives that are character exclusive you can acquire and upgrade during gameplay. While I don't care about the use of AI in the art in principle, how it has been used is so low effort. It lacks consistency between the characters, the moving shots, backgrounds. A little bit of time spent on cleanup, and bringing up lacking areas like UI/Icons/Backgrounds would make miles of difference. Gameplay-wise my biggest disappointment. Characters don't feel different enough, what you chose for upgrades doesn't feel like it makes much difference either. Even on hardest difficulty, last dungeon, I was able to complete it first time just focusing on characters basic attack and ignoring skills/defence/evasion etc. Pretty glaring design issues. After completing all dungeons, little to no reason to replay. When characters don't feel different enough, renown/fame changes very little so no need to max it out, what left is there to do? Gallery unlocks for a few inconsistent art pieces? Soundtrack, its there, pretty forgettable but not bad by any means. SFX are good compared to other indie games at this level. I also bought some of the DLC, didn't really offer much different from the other characters in-game. Not worth going for at current state of this game.

It's a surprisingly fun Survivors style game with anime waifus, simple as. It's actually pretty fantastic, though the English translation could use some ironing out. Also, most text vanishes on its own, often to quick to actually read. Still very enjoyable, though if you're against AI art, might wanna hard pass.
