A solid Metroidvania style FPS focused around boss battles in a world of critters and bugs. Play as a newly created creature in the form of a bipedal frog, tasked with slaying the creations of evil wizard-like beasts hellbent on mastery of the world. Armed with a variety of firearms, blast your way through different wildlife while collecting bugs, ores, coin, and upgrade materials on your way to slay the boss of a particular biome. Gameplay is pretty solid, the mechanics of combat and movement being pretty on point for what they are aiming for. Gunplay is great, each weapon handling the way you would expect without feeling loose or awkward. Upgrades for your guns can be obtained in the city, using metal and coin to pick different upgrade paths for your weapon. Ultimate forms of your guns can be unlocked in the endgame, being the go-to from that point onward. Spells can be equipped to E,F, and G key, being your main form of healing throughout the game when bugs are not available to consume. Every boss and enemy feels unique and memorable great game.
Before playing this game I had seen an overwhelming amount of praise given to the boss fights, and after beating every boss in the base game I somehow feel as though all that praise somehow undersells the quality. A multitude of full AAA game development teams somehow failed to measure up against a single indie dev when it comes to designing boss fights, and FPS gaming history has been all the worse for it. The game could've launched with only half of the boss roster and I still feel like it would manage to come out victorious when it comes to discussing which FPS game has the best bosses. The world seems super disorienting at first due to the lack of an in-depth map, but it remains manageable throughout the game. It rides a very nice balance of giving the player a multitude of obstacles to overcome and places to visit while feeling more concise instead of overcluttered. In a word, the game is focused and knows what its strengths are and what it is setting out to accomplish. This was a very excellent game that I won't find myself forgetting anytime soon, and I will gladly continue to recommend it to those looking for a unique and well designed experience. I played throughout…
Was skeptical at first but this really is a solid metroidvania FPS. Well designed bosses that do actually take effort to beat and decent exploration.
A tough adventure with lots to master and a good sense of design and style to boot.
