What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players appreciate the game's beautiful art, voice acting, and character-driven storytelling with distinct routes that reveal new perspectives on the academy. However, many criticize the lack of meaningful player choices despite being a visual novel, the short length relative to the €27.99 price tag, and the problematic nature of love interests who require emotional caretaking rather than providing reciprocal support. The game is best enjoyed at a discount and works better for players seeking a passive story experience rather than an interactive one.
English: I’ve played the game for about 70 minutes so far, including the prologue and up to Chapter 4 of Sakai. So far, the only real decision I was able to make was choosing which route to take. It feels more like reading a story rather than actually making meaningful choices, even though there were several moments where it felt like I should be able to choose something, but that turned out to be disappointing. The main character you play as often annoys me, and I really wish there were dialogue or reaction choices to respond differently. I wouldn’t recommend buying this game at full price. I got it on sale for €13.99. Since I kind of collect games like this, I’ll keep it and probably continue playing it at some point, but so far it feels repetitive and definitely not worth €27.99. If I didn’t collect games like this or hadn’t bought it on sale, I would have refunded it for the reasons mentioned above. Your decision. Correction: I’ve decided to refund the game after all. €13.99 is simply too much for a game where my own character ends up frustrating me instead of being enjoyable. I also don’t feel that urge to keep playing like I usually do with other visual novels. Deutsch: Ic…1 found this helpful
Gakuen Club is an otome visual novel developed by OperaHouse Corporation and published by Dogenzaka Lab and D3PUBLISHER. Set within the prestigious Kirika Academy, the game follows a transfer student whose ordinary school life takes an unexpected turn after she becomes involved with a secret after-school club. What begins as a typical academy romance gradually unfolds into a story filled with hidden relationships, personal secrets, and emotional discoveries. While the premise contains elements of mystery, the heart of the experience remains firmly rooted in character-driven romance. The game's greatest strength lies in its cast of love interests. Each route introduces a different perspective on the academy and its secretive social circle, allowing players to build relationships with characters who possess distinct personalities, ambitions, and vulnerabilities. The writing places significant emphasis on emotional development, ensuring that each romantic path feels personal and rewarding. Rather than relying heavily on dramatic twists, the narrative focuses on the gradual growth of trust and affection between the protagonist and her chosen partner. Fans of traditional otome storytel…
Bought this game because of not-so-bad art. If you are a fan of hurt/comfort (aimed at male characters), you'll like it. The boys are all full freakin' problematic. There is no boy in this circle of romanceable characters that doesn't have a stick in their brain. You always have to be their psychologist, just to fix their problems. I don't wanna do that, I want real men fix MY problems! I love damsel in distress, but this game is all about bachelor in distress. Even senpais are full of problems, and not the math ones! And the plot is really, really strange. It has ALL the possibilities to make the game dark and disturbing. Look, there's a NIGHT CLUB and SCHOOLGIRLS and SCHOOLBOYS are working there AS SERVANTS, while EVERYTHING that could happen there STAYS IN SECRET FOREVER, and the GUESTS are RANDOM WEALTHY and INFLUENTIAL people. U damn sure something disturbing should happen in this place. But it won't, 'cause this game is stuck to the rating :\ However, it wasn't boring for me. Maybe because I waited for the moment when my girl falls ill or loses consciousness or something like that. Cause I was tired of caring about all these losers. As far as I hate some types of character…
It's so boring that I didn't even remember anything that stood out.
I don't know why this game has a special rating, it only has plain kisses, nothing explicit. It sure is expensive considering its length. Expect a little above 2 hours/full route. By the way, they're pretty unbalanced, some routes are around 1h30 while others may require more than 3. It gives an unpolished and rushed feeling to some LIs. Overall, I enjoyed the game, the art is beautiful and the voice acting is always a nice feature to have. Side characters voices are always the same but not distributed the same way over the different routes, and some of their voices were really offputting to me, they sounded unnaturally high-pitched as if strained. Even if he is the one that stands out the less at first, Saku's route is my favourite.
This is an enjoyable story. It is not very long, 2-8 hrs per route. The arts, music and story - are all good. I would even like to read it one more time after some time. There are many nice CGs to open, possible bad and good endings. A little challenging, but not to the point of making you angry with it. There are 6 love interests and each of them has his own story. Every route was good and opened many new facts and stuff. I finished it 100% and all the time spent was worth it. Even if I didn't like some characters at the beginning, I've changed my mind after going through their route. Every one of them has something good and bad, and this is nice. I really recommend to give this VN a go.
