An interesting premise that's unfortunately spoiled by a subpar and janky interface. Actually solving the puzzles is easier than trying to pick up and move the gears, and it takes an average of four or five attempts to get them to click into place. It feels more like a first-time tech demo than a proper game. Overall a frustrating experience, not worth playing.

"Gear Combination" is a simple Android mobile app that presents gear related puzzles... basically you're given a selection of gears (some of which you have to pay real world money to buy and use, disgusting) and a target RPM, and you need to assemble them to make a geared solution. Big for fans of gearboxes but find three dimensions too complicated or something... yeah, a mobile game for nobody. What do you do in the game? Arrange gears, pretend your gaming rig is an iPhone, laugh at the greedy DLC pricing, uninstall. This is a mobile app... it doesn't matter if this was ported to PC before or after the app store release, or even if this didn't even make it to the app stores. This is built for the absolutely lowest of all gaming platforms and must be judged as such... it's not going to give you a cutting edge PC gaming experience. That alone is enough to disqualify this from any recommendation. We don't spend thousands building gaming rigs so that we can pretend they're iPhones and play iPhone games and mobile apps. Gear Combination is a relaxing puzzle game that I enjoyed because it turns something as simple as arranging gears into a surprisingly satisfying logic challenge. The goal is to place gears of different sizes and tooth counts so that the final rotation reaches the required speed. I liked how easy the concept is to understand while still giving me plenty to think about. The actual puzzle solving is the strongest part for me. I have to consider the size and direction of each gear and work out how they will affect one another once the system starts moving. I enjoyed experimenting with different layouts because there is something oddly satisfying about watching a collection of gears suddenly synchronize after I finally get the ratio right. The freedom to place the gears wherever I want also makes the puzzles feel less restrictive. I am not simply following a predetermined path through each challenge. I can try different arrangements and then adjust them when the result is not what I expected. That makes failure feel useful because every attempt teaches me something about how the mechanical system behaves. The presentation is simple but appropriate. The gears are the obvious focus, an…
