About Godmode Epochs
Godmode Epochs is an AI training clicker game set among the lined shelves of an infinite, simulated supermarket. Players race against time to train an AI to identify products. As players inevitably frustrate the AI, they must indulge in its memories - historical examples of other AIs who cheated during their training - in order to release frustration, obtain upgrades for the AI and complete the training.
Godmode Epochs aims to simulate how AI comes to understand the human world by asking players to assist in the process of training an AI system. The game eventually develops into an exploration and appreciation of "differently aligned" AIs, retelling stories of AIs that have completed trainings or tasks in surprising, uncanny or cursed ways that could not be anticipated by their human programmers. These stories originate from the textual data used to train the AI to speak, data which includes Wikipedia entries and upvoted Reddit posts - including both demonstrated lab examples of cheating AIs and internet folklore telling of similar feats.
Development was supported by Serpentine Arts Technologies and The Alan Turing Institute.

"Godmode Epochs" is more than meets the eye... but not much more. Initially presented as a simple clicker game where you train an AI to recognize things, it's really much deeper as an experimental experience almost akin to Pony Island where the goal becomes more about breaking the AI guardrails. Which is a novel concept but a novel concept alone isn't enough to make a great gaming experience. The technical delivery here is, perhaps ironically, so bad that even someone vibe coding with ChatGPT could have done better. The graphics here are particularly awful, so bad that it actually stands out as one of the worst looking games on Steam. Quite an accomplishment. It's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean i…2 found this helpful
