About Gone Astray

Gone Astray is a First-Person survival horror game featuring rich atmosphere, believable interior and exterior environments.

Story

You are Josh, an outdoorsman with an otherwise ordinary life. The year is nineteen seventy something and you are about to take your dog Trigger for one of your weekly sunday hikes in the forest. Up until now, you've explored a new location every week, pleasant times have been had and good memories have been made. This particular Sunday, Trigger senses something and he runs off chasing whatever it is. Naturally, you follow. You wouldn't leave your best friend behind, would you?..

As the day settles and the night approaches you run after your best friend. Suddenly you notice you don't know where you are and there is something eerie about this place. You can't turn back, you don't even know where back is, you can only push forward, clinging to the hope that you will be reunited with your best friend.

You are lost and confused, scared and alone, the dark and unknown makes a chill go down your spine, you've gone astray.

The good! > Absolutely fantastic out of this world atsmohpere. Seriously top notch, and hits all the right notes without going overboard. One of those games that only needs a light to flicker to get you scared. > Lots of attention to detail in the environment. This is a good thing, because you're going to spend a lot of time stumbling around in the dark paying attention to little details. The bad. > You're going to spend a slightly absurd amount of time stumbling around in the dark. Maybe I'm just awful at navigating horror games, but this really is a particularly disorienting experience with very limited vision and few landmarks to navigate by. The flashlight also has a habit of lagging behind the camera and getting stuck in things, which only worsens the matter. > The objectives aren't particularly clear. The map design is pretty linear, and for awhile you'll feel like you're making progress and getting into it. Then you hit a locked door. Locked doors are not opened by keys in this universe, they're opened by as far as I can ascertain literally walking back and forth at random through places you've already been to trigger other events. It's an ... interesting ... way to mak…

Game keeps crashing and is unplayable. Had to start the game 5 times to write this warning.

I enjoyed it up until the enemy you encounter. Solid atmosphere and weird design. The flaws in this game are the very hard to read notes you collect, not being in full screen and the creature you encounter because it's goofy as hell. Still a solid indie-horror game for the price.

Really enjoyed this game so far. Plays very smooth and has a great atmosphere. Some of the story concepts are a little far fetched but what horror game isn't? If you enjoy walking sim/horror games in the vain of Slender man, then this is a great addition to your collection. You can check out my lets play video to see the game in action

The game is broken. It freezes at the menu screen. Once you exit the game you can not go back in. I asked for a refund.
