Tamamori came to Tokyo with his sights set on getting accepted to the Imperial University. However, he doesn't pass the entrance exam, and is so undisciplined and wrapped up in endless fantasies that he's kicked out of his boarding house after only two years. Through a stroke of luck, Tamamori begins to live and work at Umebachidou, a used book store. There, he enjoys whiling away his time as a "student preparing for entrance exams" and taking advantage of friends who are also from his hometown. But one right after the other, mysterious deaths befall those friends and, realizing he's been repeating the same rainy three days over and over again, Tamamori finds himself racing throughout Jinbochou to save them.

[i]He smiled cheerfully again—with his blue eyes.[/i] Hashihime of the Old Book Town is an amazing game that makes good use of its time travel theme, demonstrating this through the repetition of dialogues and scenes between the characters, changing small details as the protagonist, Tamamori, spends more and more time trapped in this loop trying to save his friend. The art, dialogue, and music are all exceptionally well-crafted. Unlike most BL games, Hashihime requires you to play the character routes in a specific order. This might be a downside if you are only interested in one particular character; but for me, who only liked the character from the first route, [spoiler]Minakami[/spoiler], it was perfect. Even more so considering that this route perfectly concludes Hashihime's story, and is considered by many, including ADELTA, to be the true route of the game. It is an interesting choice, really: they simply placed the game's best route first. I have no desire to play the others, as all the mysteries were resolved perfectly for me, culminating in a satisfying ending.
