Hearing Voices

a short and sweet game for a late night to unwind! audio tapes were well made and really carried a terrifying, spooky, atmosphere! premise of the game is really simple to understand too!- listen to a short recording, mark out garbled but possibly intelligible speech, then unscramble the recording... the challenge lies more in being able to mark the segment of audio with speech correctly, as some of the tapes have a lot of static and white noise that may or may not sound like voices... and also, if it weren't for the preset words a segment could be- it would have been very hard since sometimes the speech really didn't sound like the word at all, but it could just be my clinically diagnosed impaired hearing @.@ unscrambling part and identifying the words aren't too hard as 2-3 possible words are given per segment identified, and based on contextual understanding... there's only really one possible option to use! or perhaps i was just unexpectedly good at that part <w> but! i do feel like the options could have been more appropriate so that it'd be less of a giveaway... in any case, an interesting and clever idea with a great execution! definitely well worth the time experiencing~ …

Hearing Voices is a free short psychological horror puzzle game where I play as Luis Edno, an audio analyst who has to examine strange recordings and work out the messages hidden inside them. Most of the game takes place at a desk, listening closely to scrambled communications and trying to figure out which words are actually being spoken. It is a simple idea, but it gives the game a really different kind of horror. The audio puzzles are easily the strongest part for me. I have to listen carefully because the recordings are deliberately difficult to understand, with static, strange sounds and voices mixed together. Sometimes I am left wondering if I actually heard a word or if my brain filled it in, which fits the psychological horror really well. I also like how mistakes are handled. I cannot just keep guessing until I get the right answer without consequences, because getting things wrong pushes Luis further into paranoia. That makes me take the recordings more seriously and gives even the smaller decisions a little more tension.
