HeistGeist surprised me in all the best ways. I knew very little about it going in and thought it might just be a quick deckbuilder with a fun aesthetic. I enjoyed it immensely and got a really unique experience in the deckbuilding space. First and foremost, the game is a linear narrative which I wasn't expecting; and that's not a negative either, there's a ton of writing around the characters and setting and story that are really well done and kept me going through the whole game. Alexandra and her crew are fun to follow and though the game takes place in a fairly standard cyberpunk universe it plays with the space very well. Very very European, which again is not a negative, because it uses that setting and identity to really bring out the best in the game. What helps in the story-telling is the general structure of the game. You begin by discussing a heist that you are going to do and then go on that heist. Each heist progresses from map point to map point, similar to a standard roguelike map, but within each heist the things you do can affect your trip through. Often you will have separate teams and need to coordinate movement through the building, maybe hacking security …

This is a story driven deckbuilding game. Initially the card battler aspect drew me in but what really makes this game shine is the fun shadowpunk narrative, likeable authentic characters, stylish art and professional voice acting. But honestly, what really motivated me to write a review was just how much love and care the developers put into the game. The game is full of personality and little details. As for the gameplay, the card battle itself is just okay. It's definitely not going to be engaging enough for fans of games like Slay the Spire, Battle Train and the sorts, but the game doesn't really go for that either. It tries new, original ideas, and it's really cool how most cards have their own animations. Unfortunately it's not very well balanced, some cards are just straight up good or bad without sinergies to compensate, or have weird effects to the point that even upgrading them can be detrimental. Enemies don't have enough variety, with simple movesets and no challenge at all, and the deckbuilding is very slow, so combat can get stale and repetitive very quickly. The lack of adjustable difficulty makes progression very straightforward, so players will be most likely play…

This game was a huge surprise for me — now I can't get enough of it. Pros: – The card combat and combo mechanics are really entertaining. – The story has a nice pace, the characters are interesting, and the dialogue is well-written. It really gets to me when the storytelling goes deeper into the developing relationships between the crew members. – Cyberpunk and synthwave aesthetic. Cons: – The controls can feel a bit clunky. Every time I want to close a menu, I instinctively press ESC and get annoyed when it kicks me to the main menu instead. Minor gripe though.

Story based, deck builder. The initial 30 minutes are deceptively simple, but the game scales into a puzzle-solving IQ test. Professional voice acting, and creative writing.

Character/story focused is its strength. Cyberpunk accurate. Casting and Voice amazing. Art great. Good cardbuilding gameplay/puzzles. Same battle music track can get a little tiresome, but rest was great

the game is severely unbalanced once you get to the third building. you arent ment to win, no matter what you do. but hey, by that point its past the 2 hour refund mark and the devs know it. so ♥♥♥♥ us they got our money for a game we will never finish.
