Hunt, or be hunted
How you hunt your prey is up to you. You can go in guns blazing and let your shotgun do the talking, or you can plan and research your targets to use their weaknesses against them.
Study your prey
As a hunter, knowledge is one of your greatest weapons. By reading your environment and uncovering the weaknesses of the creatures you're hunting, you can make it a little easier to slay them. The Cryptonomicon is your hunter guidebook, tracking the creatures you’ve slain and the clues you’ve collected.
Use your tools
From shotguns and booby traps, to silver nitrate rounds and high tech gadgets - there are many tools in your arsenal that can help you fight the darkness. Choosing what to bring with you, and when to use it can be the difference between victory and a grizzly defeat.

Gameplay too short for the money and youre also supporting the devs who abondoned this game. Do not buy instead there are people on YT with full playthroughs, watch those.3 found this helpful

The game has a ton of bugs, and is not extremely well optimised... I still had a ton of fun with the latest version; damn even made a Romanian translation for it... but it is still not the way to go. The devs themselves removed a ton of stuff from the Early Access, and it is simply a worse product. I recommend downpatching the game through Steam's console (you need the Early Access Depot, look for it at SteamDB) The only reason I made my translation mod is because I wanted to challenge myself to navigate their own messy code, and create a project that I could put on my CV. There's literally no reason to play the retail version, go for Early Access. The extra maps in the retail version literally go against the game's mechanics; I always preferred playing on House maps simply for the fact that the game was made specifically for those tight spaces; not wide-open forests and junkyards. If you're planning to buy this, downpatch the game and it might be worthwhile then. I really like the game, but I dislike the fact the retail version is worse; I can pretty much only play EA.1 found this helpful
General Impression
Buried in this mess of a game is a winning formula—one that balances combat, sleuthing, deduction, and preparation all into a congruent experience. Each activity feeds into another and ultimately leads you to the climactic showdown with the boss. HellSign leaves a strong impression and comes very close to pulling it all off, but, unfortunately, doesn't quite make it. The general flow of the game is to arrive at a location, use specialized equipment to hunt down invisible "clues," defend yourself against hostile cryptids while clearing the location, use the clues to identify the boss, and then return to your van to prepare for the final fight. Every foe—including bosses—has one or more distinctive weakness and strength that you can adapt to if you have foreknowledge of the situation, which you sometimes do. Progression comes from earning money from jobs and spending that money on weapons, armor, equipment, medicine, specialized ammunition, traps, and information on opponents you'll encounter. The character can accrue skill points to allocate in what I would generously describe as a skill tree (more like a skill shrub). Points can be reclaimed and freely…
Yeah nah.
