About Heroes of Umbra

Once a fabled assassin, you hunted those who jeopardized the order and balance of your home village. Now, after a blinding flash of light during a routine mission to stop a murderer who calls himself The Apprentice, you find yourself alone on a mysterious island with little recollection of the task at hand. Can you recall and complete your original mission and stop this mysterious killer before he reaches his target?

Heroes of Umbra is a 2D side-scrolling online RPG that plays similar to games like MapleStory and Diablo. You can connect and play with your friends over a network, or play the game single-player. The game features four major dungeons to test your platforming and plenty of maps, enemies, and equipment to discover.

Side-scrolling Action RPG + Platformer + Dungeon Crawler + Metroidvania. A fun, relaxing game that can be played solo or with friends. Gameplay: https://youtu.be/QcJF38JF58s You explore an island with various locations and dungeons; kill enemies and bosses; complete quests and puzzles. As you progress, you get money and loot to equip your hero with new weapons and armor. In addition, you get experience points to unlock new abilities and improve your character's stats/skills. When your hero dies, you can return to the place of death or pay to return to the city. If you have a teleportation crystal, you can return to the city at any time. In the city, you can visit merchants and bank to put your things in the chest and and clear space in your inventory. + Cute graphics and animation. + Nice music and funny sounds. + Character customization (you can choose gender, skin color and hairstyle). + Change of equipment is displayed on the hero. + Simple, relaxing gameplay. + Single player. + Online co-op (one player becomes the host, the others join him). + Various locations, monsters and bosses. + Quests, loot and trade. + Complex achievements. Heroes of Umbra is a 2D side-scrolling action RPG developed and published by Alcuria Games that blends classic platforming sensibilities with modern role-playing progression systems. Set on the mysterious island of Archaleon, the game places players in the role of an amnesiac hero who must piece together fragments of their identity while confronting a looming magical threat. Though the premise follows familiar fantasy tropes—lost memories, dark forces, and hidden power—the experience focuses less on narrative complexity and more on combat rhythm, character customization, and cooperative exploration. Gameplay unfolds across side-scrolling stages that combine platforming traversal with hack-and-slash combat. Movement feels responsive, allowing players to jump, dodge, and chain attacks in fluid succession. Enemies populate each area in varied formations, encouraging players to adapt rather than simply button-mash through encounters. Combat emphasizes timing and positioning, particularly when facing tougher foes or bosses that demand pattern recognition and careful resource management. The balance between agility and aggression gives the game a steady momentum that keeps encounters en…

initially I was having fun with this game, but once I got to the snow area onward, it just became a slog. Suddenly I was doing F all for damage and the boss was atrociously bad. I was a 99 power warrior and barely doing anything with the snails after that. I really don't see how It could be my fault that I'm not doing damage or that my specs are wrong. on top of that the platforming all throughout the whole experience was painful. I want to like this more but it just pissed me off.

Very good game after the main story, achievements are challenging. The community is very friendly, sadly low player count but it do it's thing. The main story was short but that wasn't the main dish of the game but completing the game to 100% I've been up for years and one thing I just disliked was losing my saves and clouds over by over again I've played more on offline which is more than my steam record. Great game, so nostalgia.

Actually a very nice game. I played the free Java-based beta version on Linux years ago. Unfortunately, the Steam version I bought no longer works on GNU/Linux. So I don't recommend buying it for Linux users!
