Hexahedra

[disclaimer: I'm only half way through the campaign... but then I never finish games like this, my perfectionism/OCD is way too strong!] It's a solid zach-like. The core cube-manipulation mechanics are novel and mentally stimulating (expect to spend hours rotating your fingers in the dark instead of sleeping). More importantly, there are a HUGE number of possible solutions to each puzzle; you will never run out of new (and meaningfully different) approaches to try. To me that is what sets the best programming puzzlers apart from the rest. The UI is... not good. It adds enough friction to drain much of the fun from the experience. I thought maybe it was because I was playing on Deck, but it was barely better when I tried keyboard & mouse. That said, I'm still playing... decide for yourself if that's due to quality game design or OCD! Music, graphics, story... all mediocre, but totally unimportant to a game like this.

A sleek automation game, This is the first time I play a game of this type, however, my on-boarding was pretty smooth in Hexahedra. The UI is very well done, with lots of QoL features to help the player to setup their box factory. Its really surprising how seemingly simple the individual mechanics are, while their combinations lead to a lot of depth, such as loops, complex sequences, and more. I really like this kind of elegant design because it makes getting into the game much simpler without sacrificing its depth. My inner urge for optimizing my factories is leading me into many a rabbit hole, and I am happy going down them.

You need to buy this! Recommended if you're into programming and/or automation.

I first started the demo with confidence, the game on boards you really well and gradually steps up in difficulty to become a clever brain teaser. Then the last level of the demo came along and gave me PTSD but I kept coming back determined to crack it! :D I finally smashed it and I was hooked bought the full game instantly! Would recommend for all those who want to rage quit claiming "it's impossible!" only to come back and get addicted to solving these puzzles :)

Like all the best puzzle games, you'll be thinking about this while you're not playing. You'll be rotating cubes in your head when you should be paying attention to other things that are perhaps more essential to a happy life. Perhaps. The constraints placed on your factory due to the positioning of elements and the space available to enter commands will force you to find efficient solutions, though it might take you a while to get there. The satisfaction of completing a level or matching a record when you couldn't initially see how to is fantastic. The story is fun, the interface is slick and the gameplay solid. Anyone who enjoys Zachtronics games is sure to enjoy Hexahedra. Ticking the box as I didn't pay for the game, but I won it in a competition. Would happily have paid for it if I hadn't done!

A fun puzzle game that is similar to the Zachtronics style puzzle games with some interesting new ideas. Nice and simple to start with but keeps things interesting by quickly adding new complexities as the story progresses.
