About HexaScape: Cyber Defense
Make yourself comfortable, put on your headphones, and get ready to conquer cyberspace! HexaScape: Cyber Defense is an addictive mix of hex grid puzzler and tower defense mechanics, creating a compelling turn-based strategy game.

If you know the board game classic Carcassonne, you’ll instantly feel at home in HexaScape. Players determine the course of the game by placing hexagon tiles: they explore cyberspace, expand the influence of the cyber core, and build a defense line with towers that can be strengthened and upgraded by power clusters.
As you increase the core’s reach, virus spawners will appear. They spawn viruses and grow stronger with each wave – unless you manage to disable them. Each run feels different: The more you expand into cyberspace, the more abilities the viruses can take on, testing your ability to constantly adapt to new game conditions.

Cyber towers are your only defence against viruses. Place them wisely, buff them with power fields, upgrade them with new abilities by completing quests, and use skill points to customize them to your needs.

By placing the hex tiles, you explore cyberspace, encountering six different biomes, many different events, and virus bosses hidden on the generator tiles. There’s a campaign with predefined scenarios, an endless mode with procedurally generated maps, maps of the week, and user-generated maps for nearly endless fun!

Create custom maps for new challenges with the powerful editor! Determine where biomes, event fields, and boss fields are located, and add your own story. Play your maps yourself or share them with the community.

Just played mostly the tutorials and not in love with them. The UI is a bit wonky, the buttons are inconsistently sized and there is some weird choices. The text in the tutorials disappears on it's own after a while and that time isn't indicated anywhere. The audio starts off way too loud. But most of these issues are fixable. The game itself is pretty interesting. It's not unpleasant despite the UI/tutorial issues. Placing tiles feels pretty satisfying and the game rules are rather easy to understand. Definitely looking forward to seeing how that develops through early access and trying some actual maps.4 found this helpful
A game that will really make you think (if you want a competitive score). Really enjoyed the demo and this new EA release just has a lot more bells and whistles. The power and data cluster elements just add those extra elements that take this Tower Defense title to a whole new level. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2647510/HexaScape_Cyber_Defense/# Highly recommended!!2 found this helpful
7/10 A mix of connect-tiles puzzle and tower defense. TLDR: The core mechanics of the game are solid. Yet the learning curve is unnecessarily steep because of the poorly chosen setting of "computer viruses" that's just gibberish if you have any relation to IT. It's still in Early Access, so it will probably become a better game by the time it's released. Good: - in its core, it's a puzzle game where you get a random hex tile every turn and need to place it somewhere so that more of the tile's edges would get connected to other tiles of yours with the same type of connector. So, you're building clusters here, as much as randomness allows you. Then, on top of that, you place towers which you get upgraded as these clusters grow. Sometimes you're forced to place "virus spawner" tiles that start spawning enemies, and your towers shoot at them - the game has a level editor and Steam Workshop, so there are some player-made maps to try out So-so: - the graphics are generally okay-ish. They are detailed (mostly). I didn't like the color palette though. There is too much saturated blue color - which probably comes from the setting of "viruses" that tries to resemble old computers and the …1 found this helpful
Fun little game, especially considering it's still early access. The gameplay is simple but interesting enough to keep one playing. I didn't like the forceful tutorial, but enjoyed the endless mode quite a lot. I started up the game to just check out how it plays, turned on endless mode and somehow couldn't stop playing. Only stopped when I made a mistake and got my core destroyed. In general, I'm not a bit fan of the whole 'cyber' setting - I see the graphics designers did what they could here to make the visuals look appealing, but I get a feeling a more fantasy-like setting would just be easier and cleaner. A spin-off idea perhaps? All in all a decent game for such a small studio.1 found this helpful
This is a clever turn-based tower defense game where you rotate and place tiles. Tiles can be towers; combinations of lanes, pipes, and data; or virus spawning sites. By placement you get to decide where the viruses come from. The virus spawning sites also affect viruses passing through. They can speed them up, make them harder to kill, etc. So, you want to avoid passing viruses through too many spawning sites. However, each virus also comes with a "quest", which is an objective which if completed will deactivate the spawning site. The quests can actually require you to string virus spawning sites together, among other objectives. Pay attention to the symbols over the virus tile when you are placing it, because the bonus and quest affect where you want to place the spawning site. You want to clump up pipes and data around towers. You also want to clump up data around data. You want to build out away from your core toward different landmarks which provide bonuses. It's a great concept and well executed.
Honestly peak. A breath of fresh air for TDs.
