June, 1983.
The summer heat has arrived earlier than it does most years.
By day there are cicadas, and by night, the higurashi.
Hinamizawa, a small village in the Japanese countryside.
While there are fewer than two thousand people there, every year, 'something' happens.
For the past 4 years, someone has died, and someone else has gone missing.
This series of deaths and disappearances is connected to the local resistance against a now-abandoned dam construction project.
A murder during the construction, covered up by the local authorities, is being re-enacted year after year.
Is it a conspiracy? A coincidence? Or perhaps a curse?
Someone who was supposed to be there... isn't.
Someone who wasn't supposed to be there... is.
Someone who was alive last night is now dead, and someone who is here right now isn't alive.
There is no way to avert this tragedy. There is no choice but to give up trying.
But even so... please don't give up.

ryukishi07 is a master at storytelling, the narrative flows in such a satisfying and rewarding way. each chapter just gets better and better even when you think it can’t
Worth the money! A heartbreaking tale surrounding Rena and Keiichi
Chapter 6 makes the story even better and more emotional. I seriously found myself tearing up at certain places, and that's no small feat to achieve in fiction, let alone in a psychological horror genre. This one had so many realistic themes and there were many situations that I related on a deeper level because I had gone through some stuff like this in real life as well. I don't think every good or even great piece of fiction can change your life, but when you find a fiction that appeals directly to your circumstances then it can become something really, really, special for you. Ch.6 Tsumihoroboshi is one of those fictions for me that speaks rather deeply to me, and ending this right now, I genuinely feel like I have been given some words of wisdom that I wish someone had given me before. These are very obvious words yes, but sometimes the world don't tell you the obvious thing enough and sometimes you forget the obvious thing quite quickly. "Common sense is not common anymore."
