About Hogvalord

Hogvalord is a combination of action RPG and farming simulation game that takes place in a fantasy medieval world. You play as Lucas, a retired royal servant whose dream is to start a hog farm business in his homeland. But heavy labour isn't the only obstacle that blocks your way to the dreamy future. With many monsters plus an unidentified fishy force that always eager to have both you and your hog's meat in their stomach, what can you do to survive in a harsh world without superpower or magical skill? Give up? Figh back? Run away? The answer is waiting for you in Hogvalord.

KEY FEATURES

  • Story-oriented gameplay: farming is not just for a living, farming is a part of the story. Figure out what has been threatening the peace of your homeland as the story progresses. Beware of choices, it can lead to a dreadful ending.
  • Gathering: wander dangerous forests, collect resouces to build your farm.
  • Design your own farm: build your farm however you like, be it a maze, a home or simply a dump. Just a small reminder, your farm is also your warzone 😄
  • Raise your hogs manually: provide them food, water or... weird potion. If they're happy, they can give birth to little piggy once in a lifetime.
  • Hog evolution: "piggy is what piggy eats", the food affect the hog's shape. Raise different type of hogs and evolve them into different mythical creatures. Yes, mythical creatures, maybe they aren't that useless after all.
  • Combat: fight and defend the farm like a real medieval peasant. No magic, no superpower, time to work out some muscles and brain cells 😉
  • Growing crops: grow you own organic veggies to feed the hogs. No need to wait for the morning market anymore.
  • Visual: top-down cute 3D graphics plus 2D beautiful hand painted character portraits & illustrations.

This game has a lot of problems. The largest ones are that food and water meters on the pigs go down way too fast and sometimes they just refuse to eat or drink. Its way too frustrating. It also seems like the dev has abandoned the game since there have been no updates. It just feels like an abandoned game that never got finished.

Unfinished, janky - and by now abandonware. Last update was June 2022 - and it unironically acts as if "there's gifts npcs like and gifts they don't like" as well as "raising the relationship will unlock heart events" (so literally baby's first farming game mechanics) were somehow "highlights". Don't waste your money.

Can't get past the tutorial because the game can't count the number of fences you put down. I wish I had just gone ahead and refunded instead of waiting to see if the dev would fix the issue. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2782803457

I'd give it a 3/5 it's has good bones and I feel it's going to be fun. As of right it's annoying to walk into any 1 unit spaced item for me or the npcs, and why even give us the option to make a pen if the pigs are going to wonder out of it every few seconds....(fyi it's easier to stock up on wood and just make no entrance to your pin then break/rebuild ever time you want in) On a more personal note I'm able to deal with most problems in games as long as there's a good fishing aspect, Final Fantasy XV, animal crossing horizon, my time at portia, are examples of my idea of good yet simple in-game fishing. All in all I'd buy it now and help their early development before it's a $20+ game.
