Hop N' Swap

This is a poorly designed precision platformer that is more concerned with annoying the player than making engaging platforming sections. It incorporates ancient game design where the objective is to prolong the game by killing the player with every single minor mistake. There are some core concepts here that are interesting, but too often the game is more concerned about your jump being off by one pixel rather than creating a sequences of timed jumps that feels nice to land. Most deaths have little to do with the player being able to figure out the jump they are doing, but rather the issue of how precise you were; if you are off by even one pixel, you're dead. Furthermore the graphics are extremely basic, and the game would have been improved by just adding abilities to your character rather have forcing the player to constantly swap between characters.

"Hop N' Swap" is a badly made 2D retro pixel platformer, yes, one of literally thousands of these infesting Steam and slightly lowering the average quality of all video games just by existing. This clunky, badly polished platformer has you swapping between characters, like Blizzard did with their Lost Vikings platformer, although this is worse in all respects. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded [i]despite[/i] the bad graphics, not because of them. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Fun platformer that really rewards learning the mechanics and getting comfortable switching back and forth between characters. Definitely not an easy game but one that's extremely satisfying to learn and beat. I especially like the funny dog secret in level 3. Great Game!
