Well worth the price - strong vintage GBA game vibes.1 found this helpful
Fantastically addictive game. Travel isn't an arduous labor, there are plenty of ways to generate economy and each "stage" of the game opens up possibilities to do different things. Mathias Westlund did about half of the music which is a big plus for me, as I like many of the games he's done the music for. Very few things are extremely tedious and the pixel graphics are super refreshing to see for someone that grew up on NES. Minor quibbles would be the ending itself is a little lack luster. The exp system can be somewhat frustrating given that you have to make a character kind of suck to train them up into the next class, if you're cross classing. But it's just a mechanic of the game and it's fine. It probably makes less of a difference if you adventure out earlier. I probably wont play it again as the story is fairly straight forward, but I got nearly 70 hours out of it and $20 and I think it's well worth the investment.
Just finished 100%-ing the game. First, the nitpicks: - When your party becomes too crowded (30+ people) it's hard to manage classes/skills/passives/equipment it becomes a chore just to have a decent defense party on your boats. - The last boss is not conveyed properly. I was undergeared, underleveled, and have unoptimized build and team comp. I wondered why the boss was super tough and unfair... Little did I know it was the last boss. I was softlocked into the area so either I load a very far save or bash my head against the wall. In the end, I managed to beat it after maybe 7-9 tries via pure ingenuity and I was surprised the credits rolled. At this point I only explored maybe half of the map. Lol. Afterwards, I went for the achievements. - Controls are rather poor. At first it's not noticeable. But after fighting so much I realized the End turn key (Enter) is so far my hands hurt. In retrospect, I should've rebinded the End turn key. Positives: - It's like pixel baldur's gate in terms of combat - The discovery in this game is insane (look system, gossips, crafting) - Pretty well balanced combat - Lore is great - Music is great - Lots of unique game mechanics (Invest, Factions,…
One of my all time favorites. Come back to it every year or two. Great character customization, open world, tactical combat, art style, humor, and everything else about it. Mod support means tons of extra content too.
Great game. Really enjoy it. The class system is great.
