About I Hate Heroes: Rocket Man
I Hate Heroes: Rocket Man is a VR platformer where you play as a superhero using rocket thrusters in each hand to propel yourself through six challenging courses and escape a supervillain's prison. The game showcases innovative VR locomotion mechanics designed to be completed in 1-2 hours, letting you skate, climb walls, and make daring jumps while collecting keys across uniquely themed levels.
I Hate Heroes Collection
This game is not the only one of its kind! Well, for now it is, but more are on the way very soon! Each game in the I Hate Heroes collection features new, unique locomotion, inspired by superheroes. They are designed to be completed in 1-2 hours, with challenging obstacles that provide immense satisfaction when completed. We chose this format so that we can share with you many locomotion experiences quickly. Each title is designed as a standalone experience, so you don’t need to play them in order.
VR Superhero Locomotion
As Rocket Man, you will be able to live out your flying fantasies in VR! In each hand you will hold a thruster capable of propelling off the ground. Use them to avoid obstacles and complete the courses by skating along platforms, climbing up walls, and making daring jumps.
6 Challenging Courses
Despite being trapped by the greatest villain of all time, you won’t be stuck in boring or uninspired levels for hours on end. Instead, only six challenging levels stand between you and true freedom. Each level has a unique theme to test your superhero abilities. Take your best shot at collecting all the keys to escape the super prison. Revisit old levels to master the mechanics and achieve new best times!
Technology
This game was developed for the Vive and Oculus headsets. We have not tested the game on other SteamVR supported devices and cannot make guarantees on functionality. Motion controllers (e.g. Vive controllers or Oculus Touch) are required.
Background
The I Hate Heroes Collection is developed by VRemedy Labs, a game studio based at MIT that loves VR and making games. Over the past two years, we have been experimenting with various locomotion methods and game formats. We are excited to share what we have found with you through this series.

I'm really enjoying the game HOWEVER there is a major drawback in that the game is totally out of focus, blurred so it takes a great deal of the fun out of it because you can't really see well where you're going. I have an inteli7-7700K quad processor and an NVidia GTX 1080 graphics card and 32GB RAM. I am using an Oculus Rift. Perhaps that's the problem. I don't know but it is very frustrating and I wish someone would address the issue... Soon. If this gets corrected I will update my review.1 found this helpful
First of all i my computer setup: Intel core i7 3770 GTX 1070 Samsung 850 EVO SSD Oculus Rift My problem now is that the game has such a bad performance (even on the lowest grafik settings) that I wasn't even able to play threw the tutorial. I am talking about an estimated 3 FPS and it takes a while when you look around till the screen even loads. You can argue that my CPU is not the newest but i have ablosulty no problem in most of the other vr games1 found this helpful
Controls are the big problem with this. In the first few levels it is fun, but as the levels get harder, the controls become more of a limitation. It needed to have rocket boosters work without boosting off walls.
I found this game utterly charming as well as pleasantly challenging. The actual concept of the gameplay is something that can only be done in vr and is pretty original as far as I can tell, but the additional atmospheric elements like the villains voice acting was what made this game really stand out as a fun experience. I can say with absolute certainty that the main reason I completed the game was to hear all the fun dialogue the "syndrome-esqe" villain had to say. I got this on sale for $4 and I'd say it was definitely worth it!
