About Impasse Journey ~ Kaohsiung Chapter ~

Synopsis

In the year 20XX, the Taiwan Strait War erupted, igniting a massive conflict, and a prolonged stalemate has brought about its first mushroom cloud to end the world, but the outcome of the battle is still in question.

Thirty years later, Taiwan has split into multiple autonomous regions of various sizes. Although the world is silent, humanity is still striving to build a new world amidst the ruins.

As the protagonist, Yang Qiongqi, you will embark on a post-apocalyptic journey to fulfill a promise to your father.

Your first stop is Kaohsiung in which you are dragged into an ongoing feud between the government military and a militia force. How you resolve it will depend on your decisions...

This is a choice-based story of hope as you search for a new life amidst the ruins of a post-apocalyptic world.

The cast

“Suppose one day, my actions are going to clash with your ideals, would you still support me?”

The protagonist who has decided to embark on her journey to search for the truth. Quiet and reserved, she has that unapproachable presence about her, or maybe, she is actually a sentimental girl.

“No, I came here to fulfil my dreams, and prove that I didn't make a wrong decision.”

A young girl who joined the militia to pursue her dreams, hoping for the day when someone could actually understand her, and Qiongqi's arrival has brought about an actual change in her.

“The truth still hurts a little...”

A young girl who has been brought up by the locals in Taiwan, and stayed on the island after the war. As the militia force's vice captain, she has impressive leadership qualities, and always diligent in her duties despite her inaptitude in warfare.

“So, we have to use peaceful and rational iron fists to shatter those stupid dreams. It's quite simple, actually.”

A young girl who is nearly forgotten as an underground dweller when she used to live in the canals below Kaohsiung. She is willing to give her all to help the person she loves to fulfil his dreams. Could she soldier on in her illusory dream bubble?

“Is this line only used by villains? What a joke.”

As an influential envoy from Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Autonomous Zone, this young girl has come to Kaohsiung to resolve the ongoing feud, although she does not seem to care too much about it. Perhaps she is simply looking for some spice in her life.

“Before we clashed, we have worked together for a long time, so we're bound to have that camaraderie between us.”

The mayor's most trusted secretary, and an indispensable part of the government military. She has been pushing hard for peace because the most important goal in her life is to stop the war that ended long ago.
Translation team thoughts and thanks with screenshots in Sinical Network
https://www.sinicalanimenetwork.com/post/impasse-journey-~kaohsiung-chapter~-translation-team-thoughts-and-thanks I recently received a free key of this game from 李處守 through my friend ipa as a translator and beta-tester for this game. Impasse Journey ~Kaohsiung Chapter~ is Erotes Studio's seventh visual novel release (fifth in Steam) fitting into the post-apocalyptic, slice-of-life and thriller genre. This is a brand new story featuring a female protagonist Yang Qiongqi in a post-apocalyptic setting where the island of Taiwan has split into multiple autonomous regions after a nuclear war. Yang Qiongqi planned to head north to fulfil a promise to her father. Unfortunately, she is forced to stop at Kaohsiung Autonomous Zone which has two factions at odds with each other. Along the way, she will make some friends and enemies as she tries to resolve the conflict to continue her journey. This visual novel has near full voice acting, including the protagonist, which adds to the immersion by helping to bring out the personalities of the main characters in the story. As with Erotes…

Impasse Journey ~ Kaohsiung Chapter ~ is a post-apocalyptic visual novel developed and published by Erotes Studio. You take on the role of Qiongqi Yang, who is making a journey from her hometown across Taiwan, which was devastated after a nuclear war. Qiongqi wants to make her way up north in order to fulfill a promise that she made with her father. Along the way, she makes a stop in Kaohsiung, and after an incident with a man who attempts to rob her, she finds herself in the building of the militia headquarters. Not only that, Qiongqi quickly leans that there is an ongoing conflict between the militia (an independent force that wants to fight for the people's rights) and the government military. That's the basic story synopsis, so I'll stop here to avoid spoilers and all that. ^^ As for the gameplay, several choices are presented during the story. Depending on the choices you make, especially towards a certain pivotal point, you can either obtain one of two bad endings or the true ending. Also, there are plenty of CGs as well as a varied soundtrack and Chinese voice acting. In addition, lots of Steam achievements are present, but they won't count towards a user's g…

I met the developer of this game at the Taipei Game Show and asked for a CD key to try out the game. Note: I have only played about 40 minutes at the time of this review. I will give my initial thoughts. As a developer myself, I know it's hard to get noticed on Steam. The game takes place in post-apocalyptic Taiwan. Having lived in Taiwan for over 10 years, I could immediately recognize some of the things placed in this game. The backgrounds do a very good job of depicting what Taiwan looks like. Also, at the start of the game, you'll meet up with a trader. You'll hear a little bicycle bell from the trader, similar to the uncles that sell ice cream near various venues. The voice acting is in Mandarin, and English subtitles are available from the options menu. The game has a lot of beautiful artwork and well-done animations. Based on what I have seen and played, this game looks very high-quality for a 2D visual novel.

Game is good, lot of plot, the references made little sense to me, I loved the cultural references and the food descriptions but I didn't like the philosophy at first but it makes sense towards the end. It's a good dystopian novel in an unusual setting - very realistic for a story like this without getting too realistic and dark. The beginning kind of made me depressed but it ends happily and is not super dark like some games get but I have some recommendations of games that feel like this in the weirdest way 10:16, Revenant March, Bad Faith, and Repurpose all about religion kind of like this that have exciting dark religious based plots since this game is so unique - the ones I told about are all unique too. You should play play Reimei no Gakuen if you like this - they are similar with a female protagonist fighting some tough odds in a dystopian setting but that one is probably longer, I know this developer has similar games but I'm not sure if they are about girls but if they are like this one - they're probably amazing and unsettling.

My Chinese wasn't good enough to understand parts of the story, but I still really enjoyed it! I want to play it again after I have studied for longer and had a chance to visit Kaohsiung. Some criticisms: - I felt like the action/fight scenes were a little long, and particularly the last couple were kind of over-the-top/silly. - I didn't like how the girls were drawn all with their shirts clinging to their boobs like an erotic game, even though it's not that kind of game at all. For the most parts I like how their outfits match their personalities, but the short skirts also seem kind of out of place for the roles they fill. - Even though I'm sure there are plenty I missed, I still felt like the references to other media were a little too much, and I wasn't really interested in the details about the guns. - I wish the villain had seemed a bit more reasonable/likable. Some things I liked: - I liked the mix of slice-of-life, action, and political drama! It felt like the story had a lot of variety. - Qiongqi is so cool!!! I'm glad she was the protagonist/POV character! - The setting of course was awesome--a lot of post-apocalyptic media does not cover places that are most…
