About Interstellaria

✦ AI summary

Command a fleet of vessels across a fully explorable galaxy, managing your crew's needs and combat roles while making life-or-death decisions against hostile aliens and space anomalies. Customize your ships with powerful weapons and stations, land on alien worlds to gather resources, and experience dynamic crew personalities that evolve throughout your adventure.

Interstellaria is a real time space-exploration sim and crew management game.

Command a fleet of vessels wandering the galaxy for adventure and profit! You’ll be forced to make tough decisions as you face hostile starships, crippling space anomalies, and intriguing aliens. When your fleet faces certain doom, should you direct your crew to make critical repairs, or report to their stations and boost your fleet?

Land your flagship on an alien world, allowing your crew to gather valuable resources for you— but be sure to equip them with powerful armor and weapons! It’s a dangerous universe out there, and although many helpful creatures will trade or share valuable information with you, many more will attack on sight!

Features

  • Tactical crew management. Direct crewmen to put out fires, or repair damaged equipment. Posting them to their station boosts your fleet's speed and combat abilities.
  • Customize your ship with helpful stations. Allocate power to important systems or simply outfit your ship with lasers and put all power into weapons!
  • Your crew eats, sleeps, and needs entertainment. Each one develops unique traits throughout the game that help or hurt the mission. Various outfits and weapons can be found to customize them further.
  • Fleet-based combat. Instead of controlling a single ship, you control multiple ships each with their own crew.
  • Fully explorable galaxy, no areas are off limits. Each region has unique ships, aliens, and mysteries to find.
  • Land your ships on planets! Each world is a new experience and has special rewards for you and your crew.
  • Featuring an all-original soundtrack from the incredibly popular chiptune musician Chipzel.

When I played this initially way back in the day, I found the game's mechanics fell apart as soon as you got more then one ship. For some bizarre reason, the game required you to switch your screen to that particular ship in order to move it which made combat unnecessarily frustrating. The last time I came back to this game, there was an update that made the UI worse. I have no real desire to return to it. The only reason I got it was because on release, it was one of the few space sims to actually allow you to land your ship on planets and space stations and have your crew disembark and do things, and I wanted a good point to jump into the genre. While still not entirely prevalent nowadays, there are more and better options for that now. I don't think there's a reason to play this in today's market.

Gets a bit confusing in the late game and the story is hard to find but its only cause it does a great job of exposing the player to a large universe filled with things to do

This game sucks on multiple levels.

Sort of fun concept, but pretty bad controls/UI, a bit glitchy, and bad pathfinding/targeting.

Old school and kind of clunky, but one of my favorite games to play while chilling.

It's difficult to give an opinion on this game. The first time I found the developer's blog, I was very hyped when I saw the retro art, which, to be honest, is gorgeous, and the game seemed really fun. Unfortunately, once the game was released, it didn't have much content, and I found the exploration boring as it involves sending the crew and waiting for them to finish. Maybe I'll give it a chance in the future, but I'm disappointed that it didn't have more content.
