About Isles of Yore

Isles of Yore is a multiplayer simulator that aims to make you experience what it was like to go through life as a prehistoric animal.

Survival

Claim your domain with an animal of your choosing in an environment that best suits your needs—dense jungle, treacherous swamps, and the wide open areas of the island all offer unique advantages and challenges. Compete with other players and AI in a bid for supremacy and survival in the food chain.
Various carnivores and a herbivore character are available for play, with AI driven characters likewise inhabiting and stalking the land around you. Future updates will extend this roster further, with larger animals and aquatic biomes planned.

An immersive PvPvE simulation experience

The game's core centers around making you feel like your animal, putting you in full control and giving you a sense of what it was like for the animal when it roamed the Earth, growing and tending to its needs. Balancing thirst, hunger, and stamina are vital day-to-day concerns as you explore the rich environment around you alone or in a pack of friends. While the main focus is on the immersive simulation, PvP elements with combat between players is available. If there are no other players around you'll encounter AI animals on your journey, helpful considering our small community and true to the game's core focus of providing a simulation experience in a world that progresses without you.If you're looking for a more laid back experience, Isles of Yore might be right up your alley.

Customisation and progression

The game includes a character customisation system, giving you creative control over aspects such as patterns, colouring, and skin types.
Spots or Stripes? Proto-feathers or scales? It's up to you. A talent tree system also exists to further tailor your chosen animal to your liking, with options to specialise for the playstyle you prefer.

A dynamic world

Explore a large, diverse island with its own day/night cycle and highly variable weather.
Fog, snow, and storms may reduce your vision as you navigate through the world, heat waves and cold spells may force you to take refuge in shelters.

AI

The game features a variety of AI animals that can be found inhabiting the island. Each species has its own own schedule and is trying to survive on the map just like you. You'll run into migrating herbivores and hungry carnivores hunting for their meals—make sure you don't end up on the menu!Younger animals can be found amongst the roaming packs and may present an opportune snack if you're quick enough to escape the adult's protective claws and fangs. A big goal of the project is to further extend the AI systems and make the animals feel true to life with behaviour that uniquely suits them.

Custom servers

Documentation on server hosting is available, with a plethora of options available for server owners—gameplay parameters such as the speed at which your needs deplete, stats overrides, and many more are all available to tailor the experience to your community's liking.⚠️ Please note that the server configuration system is currently going through a revamp, and some options have been deprecated for the time being (mainly weather changes, time of day progression, and control over the AI count). This is part of an ongoing effort to update these systems and make the core experience better.

Social

Going at it alone is not required, as grouping and chatting (toggleable) with your friends is fully supported.

A labour of love from a small team

Isles of Yore is a passion project started from a place of admiration for the awe-inspiring history of life on our planet. The path forged by games in the survival genre offers a uniquely visceral, tantalising glimpse into this strange and wondrous past, and Yore intends to build on this formula with special care to highlight the uniqueness of the animals that came before us. The game is being developed by a small team and is still going through its update cycle to expand and improve the experience.

Since you're probably looking at this game because you heard about it on a Discord server dedicated to one of the other dino games, I'll just get straight to the compare and contrast portion:
The Good
- Nearly all of the playable roster can also spawn as AI. - There is a fairly robust AI-only roster. - The strongest AI dino is stronger than the strongest playable dino. No one player can ever be the top dog in a server. - Temperature is simulated, and the animals can be warm- or cold-blooded. - Most animals inflict bleeding with at least one of their attacks. - Bleeding deals damage over time, and can be lethal. Can result in a pyrrhic victory if you don't retreat. - AI will always retreat if they take enough damage. - Players continue growing after reaching both adult and elder growth stages. Most stats increase with growth. Upon reaching a very generous growth cap, the player is from then on an "ancient," receiving a high defense buff at the cost of a speed debuff. - There is a basic perk system, with perk points awarded by reaching growth stages. Out of a possible 13 perks, you can eventually take 7. Many perks are mutually exclusive with others. - AI can sp…

Pros: Good graphics, runs pretty well and I'm personally using a steamdeck, Dinosaurs are not (from my knowledge) store bought assets, though there isn't anything wrong with that in my opinion. Nesting is a thing in this game and is interactive. As a sarcosuchus I hunted two ai paras that were swimming in the air, which is no doubt a bug but it was a fun time. Cons: Said paras were inedible once they sunk into the water for some reason, even though they were completely unblocked. Skill tree does not work from my knowledge, and its bonuses dont seem to be significant seeing as most of them have to do with combat, which there is little of. The game does not compensate too well for this, as ai spawns are dynamic and you have to know where said spawns are if you want any real interaction. Only one herbivore. Most secondary and teritary abilities are kind of useless considering that ai is, again, very sparse and hence damage doesnt matter most of the time. The game is definitely good though if youre looking for a relaxed singleplayer experience, its just that it needs more time to bake.
