Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch

As a girl who grew up pumping quarters into arcade machines playing Street Fighter, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Simpsons, and X-Men, I had a huge grin on my face the second I started this game. I was honestly worried it'd end up being another cheap licensed cash grab, but it didn't take long to realize it was made by people who genuinely love the View Askewniverse. The first thing that stood out to me was just how many references they packed into it. Not just the obvious ones either. There are callbacks, Easter eggs, familiar faces, and little details from Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and more. I kept stopping just to look around because there was always something funny, nostalgic, or recognizable hiding somewhere. It's the kind of game that makes you want to replay levels just to catch everything you missed the first time. The voice acting is fantastic. Having Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes return as Jay and Silent Bob makes the whole experience feel authentic. Enjoyed my time playing through this game. One of the boss fights had my number and almost got me to quit, but after switching up the strategy and taking the time to learn other combos the game got a lot more fun. I loved the art, subtle background and vibes of the game. It caught me off guard with all of the clever puns haha Glad i took my time playing through it, would love to see a roguelike mode or boss rush mode.

I'd never played this type of genre before so I enjoyed the challenge of figuring out the combos and how everything flowed together. Aesthetically speaking the characters were pretty funny too. I will say though the controls could feel a lil jank when dealing with flying enemies, but that could've just been a skill issue on my part lol. Wish there was some sort of endless mode, boss rush, or something that gives you a reason to keep playing and push the combat system further. Great game tho!

I'd assume most people here writing a review are like me and we backed this game all those years ago (since there appears to be zero marketing for the game). It seems insane the game took sooo many years to come out and no real updates on a timeline of when the game would release. I am curious how many backers actually died before the game released, I'd love to know the stats hah Should throw in an RIP in the credits next to their names. It looks great and I don't think I was really expecting anything more. I just feel like there was some hype and then it slowly turned into zero hype and eventually negative hype. So now we're here, 97 reviews with a "mixed" score. Oh well. Cheers to all my "name in the credits" fam, it's been a long journey and now we can all die in peace with our screenshots of our names in a game.
