JUMANJI: The Video Game

Jumanji: The Video Game might look like an interesting action-adventure from the outside, but once you actually start playing, it’s a massive disappointment. The controls are frustratingly clunky, making the combat and movement feel like a chore rather than a fun experience. The gameplay loop is incredibly repetitive, with very little variety in objectives or enemy types to keep things engaging for more than a few minutes. While it captures the look of the films, the actual execution is so poor that it’s hard to stay interested for long. 4/10.

[i]Jumani: The Video Game[/i] is another uninspired video game adaptation by the same publisher who graced us with others like [i]Trollhunters[/i], which was perhaps as equally as bad but in a different way. This is the second video game I have played from this studio and it has only further cemented my suspicion that they choose to do these adaptations not because they want to create a fun video game but because it is appealing to children and children do not really know what an objectively good video game is as they likely do not yet have anything to use as a frame of reference. They can pester their parent/guardian to purchase the game, if they are a fan, and not be any the wiser afterward. They'll play it for a few hours at most, not realizing why they are so bored, but stop questioning it due to a short attention span and just go to some other video game whilst the developers have gotten their money out of them. These developers not being held to a certain standard allows them to operate predatorily, as surely any passionate video game designer would not be satisfied with the result of this video game if it wasn't just something they churned out over a few weeks of crunch-time…

Holy smokes, the guy from Fortnite!

This Jumanji game has an interesting set-up. It’s a co-op focused game that is mainly about third persoon shooting waves of enemies. There are also a couple of trap rooms, basic maze like areas and 4 pieces of artifacts to find in order to get to the next section of a map. You still need to get from point A to B to finish a match. There are 4 maps total and 4 characters to pick from with their own special skills and weapons. The game can be played solo with or without bots and the bots do a decent enough job. In terms of pros, the game is surprisingly ok. The graphics look quite pretty, the maps are varied enough and they’re fun to go through for a while. The 4 characters are well thought out in terms of having distinctive skills and weapons. I haven’t experienced a single bug which is opposite compared to the other Jumanji game I played recently. The achievements are mostly easy to get and stress-free but you will need one co-op partner. The cons are going to mostly revolve around the game’s price. This game is everything you think a licensed game would be. It has the gameplay of something from the PS2 era. I got this as a part of a larger bundle but wouldn't recommend anyone purchase it.

This game is just boring. There are 4 maps which really just boil down to what colour you want to see because they all play the same, and all you do is fetch 4 items, sit on a flag for a few minutes while killing bland enemies that don't do anything, and then repeat three times until you "win". All of the voice actors are temu or AI and sound nothing like the actual actors, and the game looks and feels like a half-baked asset flip with the Jumanji name slapped on top to scam people into buying without looking. It isn't offensively bad, but it also fun or interesting at all. Purely boring, which is the worst thing a game can be. $30 is also outrageous
