About KAMiBAKO - Mythology of Cube -

Mapcrafting x Puzzles x Battle x RPG!?

Repair the fragmented land through puzzles, and rid the world of darkness by defeating monsters. All resources obtained through repairing the land can then be used to design the world to your liking! The medley of genres in this RPG is surprisingly accessible to players of all types, but there's no shortage of challenging elements, too! A variety of activities and a vast world lie ahead. It's up to you to repair what has been destroyed and restore peace.

A Sprawling Overworld

Our adventure takes place in the distant continent of Noahtun, a region rich in land and sea with various seasons. As you move through the overworld, the land will materialize where you advance. What awaits in the untouched regions of the world? New encounters? Battles? Perhaps an instance of fragmentation? Find out for yourself by traveling to every corner of the land.

Puzzles

Restoration Puzzles are a mission exclusive to the Restorer. By clearing the puzzle, the fragmentation of the land is then eliminated, restoring the land to its former state.

"Map-Crafting"

If the land has not been afflicted with fragmentation, it can be developed to have farmland, buildings, and other facilities so you can harvest crops and various resources. As you develop the land, more resources can be obtained and even stores can be accessed. Once a certain number of facilities have been established and the area is enclosed by fences, walls, or gates, it will become a village or town and you can give it a unique name.

Battle

A variety of monsters may appear in the land you explore. They can harm or damage the land they occupy, so be sure to take care of them with the help of your teammates. When battle commences, your teammates will attack automatically. Your role as the Restorer will be to grant Mana to them throughout the battles duration. Through granting them Mana, the skill sets in their weapons will be charged, eventually allowing them to perform an extra powerful attack.

Story

Long ago...

Seemingly out of nowhere, the world suddenly began to fall to pieces, fragmenting into cubes. Amidst the disaster many lives were lost, and spawned from this calamity came natural disasters, decimating all land and water.
The balance of the world was offset, and people's lives were forever changed.

The disastrous phenomenon that reduces the land to cubes, what became known as the "fragmentation",
continued to spread throughout the world with no signs of stopping.

To restore the order of the world, the goddess Chroem selected an individual to fulfill the role of "Restorer", the one who would restore the lands. They were tasked to journey across the world and rebuild all that had been destroyed.

The tale of our Restorer, begins now.

✦ AI summary

Players appreciate the game's challenging combat system that rewards planning and resource management, along with its charming Japanese-inspired presentation and interesting core concepts. However, most agree the game suffers from repetitive gameplay that feels hollow despite having many systems, overly long animations, tedious side content, poor tutorials, and a generic storyline that fails to engage beyond the first 10 hours, making it difficult to motivate completing the full experience.

Its not a bad game, but its not a game the majority of people will want to play and even those that do, its extremely unlikely anyone will want to complete a lot of the content it offers. The game has a refreshing amount of challenge at several points and the game has sufficient tools to make it interesting. This is entirely on the combat. Its possible to tackle higher level enemies or complicated bosses by planning ahead and gearing up appropriately, which in turn requires farming for the materials for crafting gear. Planning out combat to meet this difficulties is almost the entirety of the intellectual side of the challenge of the game. Quite a few enemies basically require wiping out to figure them out and then coming back to tackle them geared up. Dungeons similarly are difficult in so much one has to measure resource expenditure vs regeneration and how long one can sustain said expenditure (since checkpoints are only every 5 floors you want to ensure you can reach the next benchmark). The downside is that dungeons become EXTREMELY repetitive, there is no variance in enemies within the floors (except a final boss on the last floor and because of procedural generation someti…

I never write reviews for the games I play but I felt like a number of the reviews currently written don't truly reflect the game well. That's not to say they don't have fair criticisms as I agree that the game has some interesting elements that could do with more depth but it's in no way as dull or bad as some are suggesting. It's clear a number of people bought this game blind without trying the demo first and I'd suggest playing the demo before making the purchase. To talk a bit more directly about the game. There is a charm to the presentation and it's obviously been influenced by it's Japanese developers with characters having that 'anime' ascetic and cutesy voices. There isn't a great deal of variation to the NPCs but the monsters seem varied enough for what I've played so far. Game play attempts to blend a few genres and I'd say it does so fairly well, mostly because it doesn't attempt to over-complicate and reinvent too much of the wheel. There is a decent level of depth in some areas and players are giving quite a bit of agency in the building and crafting. Although this could be off putting due to the lack of explanation in some of these systems. On tutorials, this g…

I have to give the game props for attempting some new things but being that it's part 1 of a slew of games without mention is really frustrating. The game also suffers from being very repetitive. Every time I go to start the game I can't get myself to click play because I feel like after 10 hours I've seen pretty much what the game has to offer and that my time would be better spent elsewhere.

Interesting System?.......! + interesting world concept + good artwork +/- townbuilding etc. lacks in some aspects - dungeon crawling is bare minimum with repeatable system - battle management annoying - many overloaded systems (farming, dungeoncrawling etc.) - too many boring sidequest (at least over 9000) - reused assets over and over - system voice pretty annoying - battle is interesting, well at least for the first few hours - turorials dont cover much of the game - game mechanics are much, but hollow - a lot spent in combat with animations, which take too long - no interesting development down the road - puzzles are basically the same Conclusion: Showed some promise the first 10 hours, but overloaded the gameplay with to many mechanics, too many unexplained and important things. Much RNG in Crafting. Collecting is a drag. Fighting is pretty neat but takes a really long time (even if speed up). You are in there for a long run. Didnt hold what it offered the first hours and began repeating the same cycle over and over. Score: 20

If you like the demo, you will like the full game. Only downsides are: 1. ridiculous evil tranner nonsense poisoning White languages by calling everything a "they" including a single monster, a single animal, and even the main character constantly who is referred to as a if he is multiple people instead of just rewriting the sentences to avoid referring to one of the two sexes. 2. The sexes-erasure when choosing which of the two sexes your character is. I.e. the 2 sexes are called body types, which is ritardando. 3. Building and farming resources from crops is not intuitive or explained very well. Note, the game can become very easy. It is easy to over level by doing side quests and constant battles. But I do not mind. I recommend not doing all side quests. Leave most for later on. The music is heavenly. A very nostalgic game I adore and enjoy playing to pass the time.

PAINFULLY generic storyline. Even as a joke or parody the whole "chosen one adventurer versus demons" is more overdone to death than the zombie genre, and this game seems to be trying to do it straight-faced flat out seriously. If this weren't made in Japan, I'd almost be tempted to be suspicious it was written with AI. The gameplay from what I was allowed to play from the railroaded tutorial is pretty bland too, and its just a tile puzzle, no sight or sound of any actual crafting involved. I wasn't even allowed to explore the forest.
