About Kingdom: New Lands

✦ AI summary

Lead your kingdom through mysterious new islands by strategically spending coins to recruit subjects, build defenses, and discover hidden mechanics without guidance. Uncover the world's secrets on your own terms as you struggle against nightly creature attacks and environmental dangers in this minimalist strategy experience that rewards experimentation and persistence.

Tales spread of far off isles with mysteries waiting to be discovered. Rulers will need all the strength of their subjects to sail away and find new kingdoms in these New Lands.

Kingdom: New Lands builds upon the award-winning gameplay and mystery of Kingdom by introducing an abundance of new content to the IGF-nominated title while maintaining the simplicity and depth that legions of monarchs have come to experience and enjoy. Travel to the New Lands and welcome the deluge of new mounts, merchants, and vagrants that call these isles home, but be wary of the new obstacles that threaten your arrival -- for not just the greedy creatures block your way but even the environment itself can defeat you.

Kingdom: New Lands asks you to puzzle things out on your own. You'll come across items, NPCs, and mysterious statues to help you but you'll have to figure out just how exactly they'll aide you in building and defending your Kingdom.

Kingdom: New Lands is about exploration, discovery, survival and that awesome feeling that you get, when you figure something out, on your own. When multiple pieces all of a sudden come together to form a whole – a basis for a new strategy or an understanding how something in the world of Kingdom: New Lands truly works.

It is about tenacity and overcoming obstacles – even when they seem to be unsurmountable. Pulling through, against all odds. Rebuilding and recovering. And that huge internal high-five when you succeed.

It is about figuring out how best to manage your little Kingdom and tie everything together in a fashion where the game doesn’t play you – you play the game.

It’s also beautiful, tranquil, melancholy, frantic, stressful and wonderful. It delivers a spectrum of emotions that combine into a unique experience.

It's a minimalist strategy game where you need to discover the rules of how the world behaves before you can rule effectively. It's also a little bit whimsical, it's pretty, and it can be frustrating but it won't hold your hand.

Kingdom: New Lands features:

● One ruler, their horse, and a bag of coins
● Greedy creatures trying to take your coins and crown every night (stop them!)
● Loyal subjects who will help build, attack and defend your Kingdom
● Multiple upgrades for your homestead, different unit types to attack and defend, and secrets littered throughout the land
● Beautiful soundtrack that has received two honorable mentions from the Independent Games Festival

Be brave, ruler, and fight to the bitter end, lest these New Lands conquer you instead.

One of the worst games I have ever played. The pacing and how a game like this coming out in this era lacks so many darn features that it makes me infuriated that they believe their full price is justifiable. The content it should had, multiple save profiles, a sandbox-like type of game and progression... They could have done so much more with it but the pacing is insanity, you can't open this game up to have fast casual fun then save it and play it another time... You just have to play it and you can't experiment and do other cool things because the gameplay is insanely linear, like some crappy money investing/management and a back and forth horsey-ride draining routine, and if you screw up you screw up--got to start all over again. Would be forgivable if this was something that came out decades back and they decided to reformat-port it on to modern day PC gaming...

A game that has really good pixel graphics and is hard! Worth to get if you want a game on the go or a game to relax.

Totally worth it on sale for $1.49! This game is quite emotionally evocative but I can't quite put my finger on it. It truly is a work of pixel art even if the gameplay loop is a tad shallow.
Rating - 5 stars out of 5
Honestly, I think this game is incredibly cozy and cute, I like that you can use it as a game to more relax but still have some planning to it. While I realize this was more early/first in the game series there are some "quality of life" type of changes that were in later games - this one still is fantastic. Also, if you don't know the other games you wouldn't know of better ways to go about things! The original Kingdom is very fun. This one is just dull. Lot's of waiting around for things to happen. Tedious and boring more than exciting or challenging. Achievements are also bugged on save and continue so you will get them even when you shouldn't. Regret buying, *edit* To give the game a fair chance I played anther 8 hours. Can confirm. Multiple times throughout the game you will spend 15-25 minutes just waiting for in game events to occur. During that time there is nothing you need to do. Even up to that point the game offers very little challenge. The new game mechanics they added are cool in theory, but not in the way were implemented. They did add a few QoL features and visual improvements to this version, but those improvements do not make this worth a buy. Would be great if they would do an update to address the game. I don't recommend this game. Still highly recommend Kingdom Classic or Until we die if you are looking for something more engaging and challenging. Best.
