"Knights of Grumthorr 2" looks like it's a genuinely developed, not asset flipped game, but genuine intentions alone aren't enough to guarantee a great gaming experience. Mostly this one is a flop more for the weak technical implementation and poor graphics than anything else. This features really godawful, lazy pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks bad because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded [i]despite[/i] the bad graphics, not because of them. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Knights of Grumthorr 2 is a modest fantasy real-time strategy game that puts immediate combat ahead of complicated empire management. Developed and published by Matt Lloyd, it presents a traditional fantasy conflict filled with warriors, elves, magic users, monsters, and hostile armies. Rather than attempting to reproduce the enormous scale of mainstream strategy games, it keeps its ambitions focused on accessible battles, a structured single-player campaign, and a surprisingly flexible foundation for players who enjoy modifying games. Combat is the central attraction, with players commanding groups of units against enemy forces in real time. The mechanics are relatively easy to understand, making the game approachable even for someone who does not regularly play demanding RTS titles. In good faith I can't recommend this game. I can clearly see how much passion and love went into this project and I appreciate the effort, but I can't bring myself to go much beyond the first level. Let's start with the good things, Style, and no micro-tranactions. This game captures the charm of old school RTS games to a tee, I remember play Command and Conquer with my dad when I was younger on his crappy little laptop and having tons of fun. Part of the reason this game caught my eye was due to it's style. It felt so similar to all those years ago, even having the cheesy voicelines to boot. Also it can run on anything, seriously, My laptop is terrible However, makeup can't cover stab wounds. This games mechanics handle worse than trying to stick of hot butter up your ass. It's very clunky and, unlike all those years ago, doesn't have that sense of polish that and RTS should have. There are no movement hotkeys so you have to manually drag your view on the map or stick you cursor to the edge of your screen. Plus, controlling your units feels absolutely abysmal.
