Lords of the Realm II

Played the absolute heck out of this when I was a kid. I mostly just loaded up skirmish and had a bazillion battles at bridges. The AI was never too bright so those were just massacre moments. Excellent music, fun gameplay if you do decide to go the campaign route even. Today I mostly just skimmed through it to make sure it works fine and well in Windows 11. It does. Already loved it and if I didn't have eleventy thousand games to play I'd probably spend more of today with this.

I've been playing this game since just about the time it came out. Absolutely wonderful way to conquer the world! Action is turn-based aside from during combat, though combat can be paused if you need to do something else for a moment. My play pattern which has always worked: 1. swap out cows for grain fields; but let the cows be the main source of food until your population starts to actually consume them, timing the last cows' demise for autumn so their fields are immediately available for planting during the winter season 2. at the start, take the taxes down to 0% to get the population's happiness up quickly so you can build armies sooner without pissing everyone off; put at 5% once at/near 90 happiness 3. only build archers--bows only require access to wood which most counties/countries have; they have distance attacks which will kill enemy troops while they are approaching towards you; set up a line of a few archers or peasants/foot soldiers in front of the main group of archers to absorb the enemy attacks and keep the archers firing their bows; otherwise the enemy will spread around the archer group and all the edge archers will revert to melee, removing their effec…

I've played this since it was released in 96. Absolutely love it. Simple, but for it's time- was amazing.... Strategy, county building, and real time battling.

One of the greatest games ever made. And its still an absolute blast to play!

A classic. Very fun game to kill time with.
