This isnt it. The lighting can look nice and the soundtrack is descent if repetitive. Everything else is just bad. Or below average. Guns feel bad and sound bad. Enemy ai is way too annoying to fight with the underpowered guns that sound like crap. The healing mechanic is just a way to slow everything down. Its often too dark too see where you have to go in the constant maze-like level design. I gave up after spending way too long stuck in the vent mazes with no indicators of where to go or any sort of map. Forget it. You have no reason to play this game. I would honestly, rather play operation matriarchy than this.

I love narrative-focused sci-fi shooters that emphasise big set-pieces and tight combat encounters in controlled environments just like any good samaritan. Whether it be the tentpole releases like Half-Life or Halo, the ones that flew under the radar like Prey or TimeShift, or the ones that fell by the wayside due to either a limited release, a small budget, having been ripped to shreds by critics, or a combination of all three like Gene Troopers, You Are Empty, or Rat Hunter — what I'm trying to say is I can stomach most anything the FPS genre throws my way, and can overlook potential transgressions if the game gives me something solid to chew on. I'm an avowed jankmeister — one look at my profile and you'll see that I've subjected myself to an overwhelming amount of FPS slop primarily released during the dark ages, the 2000s — but even I have my limits. Kreed may just be my limit. There are far worse shooters out there from this same time period — They're Alive!, Steam Slug, and Patriot: DemocratiZation just to name a few — but there are seldom few video games that aim to antagonise the player THIS much. Disclaimer - despite giving this a thumbs up, I can't honestly say it's a good game overall. There are many rough edges and confusing level designs, a story that feels unfinished and bad voice acting. Despite all this - Kreed is definitely worth playing if you love liminal aesthetics and weird, niche science fiction. It has a lot of atmospheric and surreal areas and the amount of variety in the environments is surprisingly large. The soundtrack is also experimental and very good in places. The overall vibe of Kreed is somewhere in the grittier end of "y2k futurism", maybe falling into the "cybergunge" aesthetic or something like this. I'm not sure exactly how to describe it but it's a niche style I never get tired of. Sort of like Quake but with a more liminal, weird flavour. I got this on sale for around £1 and it was definitely worth the price. Bonus tip - I'd recommend playing the easier difficulties because the action is clunky and not what makes the game fun; I think of Kreed more as an exploration/walking sim with light action thrown in. If you approach this game wanting to focus on the combat, you probably won't enjoy it.
