About LA Cops

Alright, listen up! I got the Mayor on my ass about this like a hernia, and he wants you guys on the case. Why he wants you guys, I don’t know. You’ve cost this department more than all the Precincts in the rest of the state combined!

Anyways. You’ll be headin’ up a team of cops in LA, and you’ll be goin’ up against all manner of bad guys, packing some serious heat! Not ta mention The BIG Boss, Hawaiian Mo. Sure, it’ll be dangerous, but heck, it’s nothin’ you ain’t done before.

LA Cops is a fast, action packed 3D top down shooter set to a theme of 70s Cops in LA trying to do a tough job in a tough town. Gameplay includes an extra edge as you control two cops, using them strategically to get one up on the bad guys!

A smart targeting system UI allows, you, the player to position your cops tactically whilst taking out the bad guys in real time.

When you buy this game you get:
  • 8 main and 5 optional levels to play through. Each level is broken down into multiple sections totalling twenty overall.
  • Six Cops to choose from each with their own attributes that can be upgraded with experience points during play. Attributes include health, speed, ammo clip size & damage.
  • Five weapons to take out bad guys with including Pistols, Uzis, Shotguns, Assault Rifles & Grenade Launchers.
  • Destructible scenery
  • Multiple cut scenes tell the story of these Cops in full 3D. Just like people, not all Cops are bad & not all Cops are good.
  • Plus a Rock soundtrack that needs to be played loud!

The game isn't bad, and since it's cheap, I'd recommend it, however I can't, because of one thing - it's broken, and the devs don't care, they left it unfinished. Half of the achievements won't unlock, the game doesn't register a few of the levels as being beaten (including the final one - achievements for beating the game are unobtainable), thus preventing access to bonus levels. Shame.

Though having a unique art style, and odd gameplay, it feels clunky to move and such. The game doesnt always seem to work when it comes to catching/shooting criminals. The camera angle not being fixed adds an interresting element, but it is not done greatly. Sometimes the simplistic color palette makes me blind as to what I am looking for. The enemy movement is quite basic and sometimes it is indecisive on how to react. Id love to see more cutscenes, like for example before the mission a cinematic of what happened could be cool. The humor is not quite me, so take that how you want. Overall, you could try it, even if you get it for cheap, but in the short time I played it, it was not truly worth it.

LA Cops, developed by Modern Dream and published by Team17 Digital Ltd, is a top-down action shooter that attempts to merge arcade-style intensity with light tactical coordination, all wrapped in a stylized homage to 1970s police dramas. It presents itself as a fast, room-clearing experience where precision and planning matter, but it also leans heavily into quick restarts and trial-and-error design. The result is a game that feels caught between two identities—part strategy, part reflex-driven shooter—without fully committing to either. The central mechanic revolves around controlling two officers at once, a concept that initially suggests a strong tactical foundation. Players can switch between characters on the fly or direct one to hold position while the other advances, creating opportunities to cover multiple angles or approach encounters more thoughtfully. In theory, this dual-control system introduces a layer of strategy that separates it from more straightforward shooters. In practice, however, its effectiveness is inconsistent. The partner AI often lacks reliability, sometimes failing to react appropriately in critical moments, which can quickly unravel even carefully pla…

A game that's deeper than it seems, LA Cops is a 2D isometric shooter that has some tactical depth to it, but doesn't work that well as a single-player game. The story is simple: as 1 of the several plain-clothes detectives, you will shoot down criminals ("Bad Boys" style) as you clean up the city as you respond to various hold-ups, hostage situations, and more. The looks are sprite-ly low-poly cartoony retro, but it's in 3D in a 2D isometric level. You are expected to rotate the level to get optimum views, and you are expected to cover each other. In single player, you can call your partner to stand in a particular spot, and enemies that enter his/her view will be fired on automatically. Pick up upgraded weapons, which has their own drawbacks. Shotgun does a ton of damage, but has limited range, while Uzi / SMG have a lot of bullets, but spends them very quickly. Pistols have range, but doesn't do a lot of damage. You'll find even better guns later. Switch among partners so you can cover each other as you advance, and you *can* shoot through windows. If you got hurt, there are donuts to heal, and if you go down, there are first-aid kits that can heal but must be found and …

Nice pace. Other than that, okayish, but not in a good way. Only if you need a filler/timekiller. 7/10.
