this is a horror game that isn't scary and a sexual game that's barely sensual. the scares are very easily avoidable and the sex stuff can only be seen from an outsider's perspective, as a passerby. there can be a lot of horror from having a sexual experience inflicted upon the player character and this game is not willing to experience that in the slightest. it is also giger-esque to the point of parody, if that's your thing

[b]If you remove all the supernatural elements, you get a quite dynamic detective thriller.[/b] After being abducted, the girl leaves a clue for her husband on where to find her. Setting off to rescue her right away, our protagonist encounters a cult and realizes things are far more twisted than they seem. Equipped with a mask, we explore locations one by one, searching for the truth. This game is pretty average. The jumpscares don’t really land, the gameplay is basically a linear walking sim with long cutscenes, and the nudity is minimal. Even so, the story is actually quite engaging, and the visuals are highly detailed. I loved how much attention went into the little things. As for the downsides, the UI was a bit lacking. Sometimes it was confusing where to go, so a few hints wouldn't have hurt. (Just a heads-up: to progress, you often need to inspect a mask or a figurine to trigger the next script.) Lust for Darkness is a horror adventure game, staring protagonist Jonathan Moon. The story kicks off with a bizarre intro of a woman trying to escape a basement, then fast-forward a year after his wife went missing, the woman in the intro, Jonathan Moon receives a letter seemingly from her, telling him to meet her at the outskirts of town at an old mansion. What follows is a weird journey, where Jonathan gets swept up in an alien sex pest cult, weird otherworldly Gigeresque environments and lovecraftian outerworld gods, seeped in lust, as the name of the game title suggests and of decadence and depravity. In-between the erotic elements, is a somewhat classical Lovecraftian story threads. Draped around fairly weak gameplay. While Lust for Darkness may give a sense of familiarity, as it strives to reach for the peak that was Amnesia: The Dark Descent, it ultimately whimpers out. It sells itself as an investigative game, but there are relatively few things to find and unlock or investigate. Of those are quite important ones that you can miss, that ultimately lays out the story of the game in detail after you finish it. These "Side Stories" are in fact so important, if you miss them…

It tries to be a horror game but it's not very scary. It's a story to save your long-lost wife uncovers an unexpected world and final twist. PROS Interesting pretty visuals in the alternate world. Linear story so you won't get lost and rarely need to backtrack. Mostly intuitive with lighting and spoken cues. Quite a few cool sculptures and items. About a 2 hour game depending on how many times you fail certain challenges. The side stories are good but i didn't realise you had to collect them all in one run through. Get them all to unlock 3 mini-movies. CONS I hated the first puzzle, punishing and not in the pleasurable way. Not as Lovecraftian as I hoped, could be better like Giger. Unable to load save points after finishing the game mean you have to play it all from the start if you miss any achievements. Clicky UI is annoying, then i discovered you don't have to click most things, just walk or run through the game. Reloads after dying take forever. Very poor optimization, it went as slow as 5 FPS on my 3070 whenever there are multiple characters on the screen ;( Models are copy paste so it becomes a bit generic.

Worth playing to fill in the story blanks however it is showing its age. H.P. Lovecraft lore is magnificent and captivating I must say I'm a fan of anything Lovecraft if it's done right and L.F.D. did it right by capturing what going into the deep end with a cosmic lust being looks like.
