Making History II: The War of the World, developed by Muzzy Lane Software and published by Factus Games, is a grand strategy game that sets out to capture the sweeping complexity of the world between the early 1930s and the end of World War II. It is a game that invites players to assume control of any nation on the planet and guide it through an era defined by industrial growth, ideological conflict, and global warfare. At its heart lies an ambitious vision—to simulate the intricate political, economic, and military networks that shaped the modern world. Where many strategy games focus narrowly on military conquest, Making History II attempts something broader: to weave together the threads of production, diplomacy, trade, and culture into a single, living global system where every decision ripples outward. The experience begins with the freedom to choose your starting point and nation. Whether you wish to guide Germany in 1936 toward domination, rebuild a fractured China, or transform a small neutral state into a regional power, the game lets you rewrite history from any perspective. Each country operates with unique resources, industries, and diplomatic constraints, and these d…

Easy to learn. Fast and fun.

Making History II scratches that grand strategy itch in a way that feels approachable without being shallow — I can jump in without drowning in menus like I do with Hearts of Iron, yet there's still enough depth in the economy, research, and diplomacy to keep me genuinely engaged for hours. The sheer freedom to rewrite history however you please is the real hook: I've had Germany ally with the UK, watched the USSR randomly invade Norway, and somehow ended up with Sweden in an alliance with Liberia and Argentina. That said, the AI is the game's biggest wart — it spams infantry death stacks, makes baffling diplomatic decisions, and tends to hemorrhage money into the negatives while ignoring its own economy. The interface also has one click too many for almost everything, which gets exhausting when managing a larger nation. Still, for the price — especially on sale — it's a rewarding sandbox for anyone who's ever wanted to ask 'what if?' about WWII.
