About Marry a Deep One: Innsmouth Simulator

...WHAT AM I DOING IN THIS GAME?You role-play as a sociopathic cult leader, using emotional manipulation on NPCs to achieve your goals.Through actions like 'compliment', 'flirt', 'insult', 'threaten', 'preach' and 'persuade' you influence the villagers' emotions (love, lust, trust, fear, envy, anger).Gain their love and trust (or fear), persuade them to marry a Deep One, preach to raise their faith, and recruit them into your cult.
 • MAGIC: Allows you to develop creative ways to manipulate villagers even further, to the point of breaking the game. By studying documents, you can learn sigils that can be combined into spells or used individually to cast curses on households.
 • POWER: Your grimoire grants you the power to monitor all villagers' feelings, relationships, actions and motivations. You can foresee the outcomes of your interactions, allowing you to design schemes for manipulating the villagers to achieve your desired goals.
 • CUSTOMIZATION: Name yourself, your cat, grimoire, cult, village, spells and children. Try out various hairstyles, glasses, and hats. Construct, expand, and modify the village to your liking.
 • CATS: You can pet them. Cats bonded to you join you in your dreams, guiding your path.
 • THE SHADOW OVER INNSMOUTH: This game draws inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos. In the original tale, there are no cats in Innsmouth, making this one of the few deviations in the game. However, the narrative overall stays true to the spirit of the source material, free from any silly references or anachronisms.

✦ AI summary

Players praise the game's novel and interesting concept, creative mechanics like spell creation and relationship tracking, and strong Lovecraftian inspiration, but are significantly frustrated by persistent bugs including tasks not registering completion, characters walking off-screen, and frequent crashes that break runs. The lack of developer communication and updates has led most reviewers to withdraw their recommendations despite appreciating the core design, with several noting they cannot in good conscience recommend the game in its current buggy and seemingly abandoned state.

Edit: The developer has been silent long enough, that i can no longer, in good faith, recommend purchasing this. I stand by what i said about it being an interesting and novel experience. This game has some very serious bugs preventing the player from enjoying the full experience, many task will not register completion, and some characters will walk off screen near-infinitely making reaching them take extreme amounts of in game time. The bugs I experienced are more inconveniences than game breaking but they are major inconveniences. Ultimately I'm giving this game a recommended because it has 2 qualities that I find to be rare when looking for a game, it is novel and interesting. That might not mean much to some, but I often find that even when a game is only good and/or fun, I ultimately know I will forget it, and it will fade into the mass of other uncountable games available. I did not feel that way with this game, despite it flaws I will remember it for a long while. If the developer ever fixes the remaining bugs this could be a genuinely amazing game, whether they will return is another matter, though I hope they will.

Played for over 5 hours - loved everything about the setting and play mechanisms, right down to the excessively detailed tracking of personal relationship stats between everyone and everything. I was positively delighted by the scroll discovery and spell creation mechanisms. The top-tier example was crafting a spell to make everyone in a whole household trust me more when I insulted one of them! "Yup, he's a doofus - we all know that, and clearly Mr. Marsh coming over here to insult our uncle shows that he's a trustable, perspicacious individual. Even Uncle Doofus agrees!" Perfection! Alas, what killed it for me were the bugs. Large percentages of what should have been successful task completions being completely ignored as if the requirement hadn't been met is Not Okay - not when failing the tasks have major consequences. Seems like the developer may have just stopped caring about fixing bugs in the game, since there's been radio silence from them in the forums in the last long while. I desperately want to be able to recommend this game, but simply cannot in good conscience. Edit: Tried again and got further and found even more, worse bugs: Ended u…

I cant really recommend this game... it has a great concept and I LOVE the Lovecraft inspiration.... but the game simply doesn't work. Having game crashes and game breaking bugs every 10-20 minutes... I couldn't play more than a couple hours before I had to give up. I'm sure it will improve in the future, so ill give it a few months to a year and then play again. Hopefully by then ill be able to change my review.

Great concept and design but catastrophically buggy and has seemingly been abandoned. Prepare for run ending bugs or don't bother.
