Midnight Special

This game is a trainwreck. The amount of glitches can give Todd Howard run for his money, everything you can imagine, from graphical glitches(items being highlited in the inventory despite not being selected), to actual soft locks(putting salt ring in the red door room because stone bride doesn't follow you here). Inventory is a mess, all documents are stored in it together with actual usable items, some puzzles are absurd, like having to light a candle to burn down spider web instead of using your lighter directly. I wish developer to finish the game and turn it into something good, but as it is now, it is not worth paying for.

I just finished this game after playing for roughly about 6 hours. The beginning felt like it had a lot of promise that was put into it and I thought it would be genuinely enjoyable. After you take care of the kids that when the game loses all respect from me. The controls didn't make sense for a good while. I missed a lot of details from the environment and flavor text since the game didn't describe that the action shown on an item or interact able came be both touched and looked at, compared to most games of the same genre where they tell you explicitly what you can do with things. The files tab didn't have a lot of the information that the game kept telling me that I had collected. There was a lot of times where I thought I got some new information about something but there wasn't anything new despite the screen showing that I can look further into that tab. The objectives felt very half assed and useless on that same regard. Most of them I never ended up finishing nor did I understand what they wanted me to do with them. For most games of this type having an objective window that lines out what you are supposed to would give you a hint, such as putting a fuse into the fuse …

Back then, I played the early access version of this and enjoyed it waiting for the full release. After waiting for so long for this game to fully release. I am beyond disappointed. I was expecting this game to be better, yet it broke in many ways during gameplay. It looked promising like it could have been a decent horror like Clock Tower. Pros- Scary and unsettling atmosphere in a pixel animated art style. Music and sounds added to the aesthetics. (Sadly these are the only good things about this game). Cons- Pacing makes the early game really easy to lose interest. Some puzzles are not obvious, and may take a bit to figure out. Controls are not usually responsive during gameplay. Game can bug a lot during certain sequences (especially getting maxed out sanity lighting the same candle repeatedly). Sanity some how allows you to find certain times in areas you originally searched before, revealing an item that wasn't originally there. Edit: Apparently I forgot you could combine a candle in your inventory with the lighter, which apparently you have to do in order to burn the cobwebs, and to trigger the one door scene to enter it. I do ultimately like the game, and the visuals and story very good, but the sanity mechanic and how it affects the game could be explained a little better.

this game moves at a snails pace and is about as fun as doing your daily chores. As a player of all things horror i cannot recommend.
