Mutation offers a compelling premise—survive a Lovecraftian nightmare as Subject 1753—but falls short in execution. Procedurally generated levels feel repetitive and resource scarcity makes survival more tedious than tense. Combat and progression lack impact, while audio and visuals quickly become repetitive. A major issue arose when the game crashed roughly two hours into my playthrough, and subsequent attempts to load back in resulted in repeated crashes, halting my progress entirely. At this time, I can not recommend this game. I recognize that Mutation is the work of a solo developer, and while it has the potential to become something special, it’s best to keep an eye on its progress for now.
