About Mycocosm
Welcome to the Underground
Mycocosm represents the conflict that constantly rages beneath your feet - where resources are traded with unscrupulous dealers, battles are fought with endlessly reproducing enemies, and where chemical warfare is fought with terrifying frequency; all within a few grams of soil.Would you Trust a Spore?
As a plant, your objective is simple: survive and grow. To do so, you'll need access to phosphorous and nitrogen, two difficult to find yet vital elements. Fortunately, wandering fungus spores will trade you these resources in exchange for access to your carbon. Everything comes at a price, however, and these fungi will take what they can and exploit you where possible. Each spore offers a roulette wheel of possible trades - some generous, others stingy, and a few just plain unfair. Quick reflexes and wary dealings will be your only chance against the trading onslaught. Every exchange has a trade-off: how much carbon are you willing to sacrifice for these precious, precious nutrients? The Soil is Damp and Full of Enemies
Once you are well-established, it won't be long before enemies home in on your roots. Pathogenic bacteria will be drawn to your seedling, and they'll gather in great numbers to extract what they can. Your only hope resides in the antibiotics released by fungal allies. As always, nothing is free in the soil. Grow a strong root system to maximize your carbon supply, or grow leaves to increase your carbon income. Whatever you do, don't hesitate. The microbial marketplace waits for no plant.Features
- A hybrid arcade shooter and resource manager set entirely within the soil
- Includes two game modes: Annual Mode and Arcade Mode
- Annual Mode follows the genetic lineage of an annual plant through multiple seasons, where you must survive against changing enemies and environments while collecting resources to improve your future progeny
- Arcade Mode requires you to achieve a high score while keeping your plant alive against increasingly powerful enemies and increasingly dubious fungal allies

✦ AI summary
Players praise the game as a passion project with surprisingly realistic mechanics and fun gameplay that appeals to biology enthusiasts, though they note it feels rough around the edges. The main complaints centered on Annual Mode's roguelike design, particularly frustrating mechanics like random starting plasmid percentages and plasmids resetting on combo breaks, but players report the developer has been responsive to feedback with meaningful updates that significantly improved the experience.
This is clearly some biologist's passion project. Feels a little rough around the edges, but very fun and surprisingly... realistic? If that's the right word...3 found this helpful
EDIT: Everything I addressed was reworked, play this game. It's amazing. Original review below (before update) | v Before you read this, just know my criticisms are only here for the benefit of this game, not to tear the dev down or to deter anyone from playing. To start off, Annual Mode could definitely use some changes. I understand wanting to make it a kind of rouge-lite mode, but the differences in starting plasmid % was a poor choice. I basically just ended up swapping between the menus, re-rolling to get a higher chance. That being said, that's not the main issue I have with annual. That would be the plasmid % resetting completely every time you combo break (making the 10% plasmid achievement extremely frustrating). Possible fixes: 1) Remove the random starting plasmid % and have a consistent number of environmental debuffs, weapons, and enemies. OR 2) Have combo breaks set back the chance by a percentage of the amount gained from the combo. (ex. combo gives +1.2%, combo break takes 0.6%) I only have one major issue within the game overall, that being the leaves growth. I've found myself growing all the roots and only growing one leaf because any more growth drains Nitro…1 found this helpful
