I love HOG games and this one will definitely be one of my new favs!1 found this helpful
another great example of how older HOGs are just plain better. pros. nice story with multiple paths you can toggle on and off the players voice ( first time i seen that option in an HOG game!) nice voice acting. bonus story ok gameplay time (2 and half hours for the main story and half an hour for the bonus story) ok puzzles. not hard and not easy. cons. low resolution the bonus story is too boring the bonus story has no voice acting sadly only in game achievements overall i really enjoyed playing this one and do recommend it for any HOG enjoyer. i give it 8/101 found this helpful
Mystery of Unicorn Castle: The Beastmaster is a gothic-themed hidden object adventure developed by Meridian’93 and published by Fulqrum Publishing that embraces classic point-and-click design within a dark fairy-tale framework. Centered on the kidnapping of a young girl named Sophie by the mysterious Beastmaster, the game invites players into a cursed castle filled with magical creatures, arcane mechanisms, and long-buried secrets. It positions itself firmly within the traditional hidden object genre, prioritizing atmospheric exploration and puzzle-solving over fast-paced action or branching narrative complexity. The story unfolds within the walls of Unicorn Castle, a once-majestic stronghold now overshadowed by sinister forces. The Beastmaster, a figure who commands the loyalty of dangerous creatures, has taken control of the castle’s power and imprisoned Sophie for reasons that gradually become clearer as the investigation progresses. While the narrative remains relatively straightforward, it provides sufficient motivation to propel the player forward. The stakes are clear: uncover the castle’s mysteries, restore its lost magical balance, and rescue the captive girl. The plot is…
it was ok..ish.
there indeed was a unicorn. However no beastmaster, instead there IS a warlock if that's alright with you. I don't know why they titled this like it's a mystery movie that'll inevitably be way more boring than the title makes it sound and didn't just call it "The Rat Warlock of Unicorn Castle: A Ritual For Immortality". Just as wordy and definitely more eyecatching. Haven't really played any hidden object games, I was recommended to check them out by a friend and picked up a few on sale. This was one of them just because I didn't want one of the plentifully stocked HOG's that are based on a "mystery" that likely is not going to have any story I'd be interested in. I was absolutely overjoyed when janky FMV cg rat gifs started sliding across the screen while the wooden actor says something completely unfitting of the situation. Just something like "Not those rats! I better find a way to scare it off!" While he's holding a rifle, explosive, battleaxe, a rock, slingshot. For being in a very life threatening situation, he seems way too fixated on making sure the magical beast ghost monsters don't get hurt instead of himself for seemingly no reason. I was really hoping just at any mome…
This is a tough recommendation that I'm honestly on the fence about, but in the end I did enjoy my time with most of the game, so it earned a positive review with some big caveats. First, this game sets you loose in a fairly large map for a point-and-click adventure game, with puzzles late in the game requiring you to revisit many areas throughout the game. I really enjoyed the scope of the game. Unfortunately it feels padded with some hidden object puzzles that feel arbitrary and not fun, especially when each image is reused on a subsequent visit. On the adventure side of things, some of the puzzles, especially late game, just require you to find a specifically shaped key to go in a lock, and there were a LOT of locks. The game has many options to prevent tedium and feeling lost despite the large number of rooms/screens. The map is a fantastic feature, allowing you to fast travel to any room you've visited and showing which rooms currently have something you can do in them. The game also has a hint system that will point out objects in the hidden object segments and guide you to the next item you'll need for puzzles. There are a few mini-game style puzzles, but there's a button t…
