About Nightmare: The Lunatic

You are trapped in a never-ending nightmare. To escape from this nightmare, you must dig deep into the dream to find a way out. A 'dream merchant' who came to trade and got caught up in a bad dream will help you. Escape the nightmare with his help!

Powerful monsters will get in your way. Identify their characteristic movements. If you're used to it, parry their attacks and defeat them.

You can use various weapons. Choose a weapon considering your taste and the synergy between each weapon. Swap between the weapons of your choice and fight effectively.

The dream merchant has lost all items to sell to you. If you explore in your dreams, you will find them. The 'Totem' with various abilities will be of great help on your journey.

Oh my, you died. But don't worry. It's a dream. The opportunities are endless. There are just minor issues that go back to the beginning and change the structure of the dream.

Nightmare: The Lunatic, developed and published by Maetdol Games, is a kinetic action roguelite that leans heavily into speed, adaptability, and a looping sense of progression that mirrors its dreamlike premise. Set within a distorted nightmare world where each failure resets the cycle, the game builds its appeal around repetition that feels purposeful rather than punishing. While the foundation may be familiar to fans of the genre, it quickly establishes its own identity through fluid combat systems and a design philosophy that rewards constant engagement rather than cautious play. The most defining aspect of the game is its combat system, which revolves around managing and switching between multiple weapons in real time. Instead of encouraging players to commit to a single style, the game pushes them to actively rotate their arsenal, chaining attacks and abilities in a way that keeps every encounter dynamic. Each weapon fills a different role—some excel at close-range burst damage, while others provide safer ranged options—and the act of switching between them becomes just as important as attacking itself. This creates a satisfying rhythm where combat feels less like repetition …

Slightly less good version of "Skull the hero slayer" and that game was a 10/10. Some cool game-breaking combos to discover, tons of content including endgame, and a blast to play. Deserves more love than it's gotten!

Fun so far feels like a mix between dead cells and scourgebringer + its own unique weapon swap mechanic
[Rage Quit Warning – Disclaimer]:
[*] There is a significantly high statistical probability of you becoming so frustrated with THE INITIAL SLOW PACE OF THE GAME that you give up on it before receiving relative enjoyment. [*] This is in part due to the extreme lack of direction on what strategies the game punishes vs rewards AND THE INITIAL FEELING OF UNDERPOWEREDNESS of your character IN COMPARISON to the strength of the enemies, especially compared TO THE END OF STAGE BOSS FIGHTS. [*] PLEASE, still give this game a chance, it BECOMES extremely fun. I promise.
[Review]:
[*] I came into this game with the mindset of tackling it as I would any other side-scroller, pew pew, slash slash, defeat boss, get rewards, yada yada. I was wrong in my perspective which led to great annoyance, and constantly feeling like the game was being "unfair" to me. [*] There are so are many good aspects of this game, ONCE YOU'VE TAKEN THE TIME TO LEARN IT. You CANNOT come into this trying to brute force your way to victory. This game rewards learning attack patterns, and maximizing the parry mechanic for stun locks and damage bonuses. [*] One of the most rewarding feelings I've had …

I really enjoyed this game, even though I don't usually play rogue-likes. It takes a while to get used to the parry, but when you do it feels really satisfying.
