About No Lights

✦ AI summary

Survive in pitch-black alien caves by managing limited oxygen and ammo while fighting hostile creatures and navigating randomly generated depths in this endless pixel adventure. No Lights stands out with its dynamic lighting system and brutal roguelike design that forces you to improvise your way through procedurally-generated caverns with no safe harbor in sight.

Without hope of salvation, in the darkness of the caves, our lost astronaut wandered in search of light. Is there enough oxygen and shells to survive in the depths of the alien planet.
No Lights is a game about surviving in a hostile space, at randomly generated levels that do not have a count.
In this endless pixel adventure, you have to research hundreds of caves, avoid all dangers, fly more than a dozen miles on the jetpack and shoot a bunch of creatures.
 • Many Levels (Randomly Generated)
 • Pixel Graphics (With Enchanced Light Components)
 • Multiplatform Support (SteamOS & MacOS)
 • Achievements

An achievement spam game, where you must get 100% within a minute of clicking all the keyboard buttons is already a red flag. But no, No Light is much worse. The menu screen static makes seeing the start and quit button difficult to see, the resolution for the game is crap and not accommodating to different screen resolutions. The game play starts with the only tutorial being how to move and shoot. Oh, and the best part is when the rest of the character's dialect after the introduction instructions is in Russian text - I think the devs forgot translate? The game-play itself is a poorly executed platformer, where you basically shoot red glowing enemies, and collect the yellow glowing coins. However, collecting the yellow coins become counter-intuitive because of how dark the map is. You can barely see the floor you walk on without those glowing objects, so what's the point in collecting them at the cost of becoming blind in the darkness? Poorly made map with poorly made achievements is what No Lights is. I can't recommend this game for the life of me.

Low effort asset flip. The game is completely aimless - you wander around procedurally generated levels collecting coins in search of a torch. That's the entire game. The character controls pretty poorly - especially the jetpack, which uncontrollably launches you high in the air. With more content and better refined mechanics this would be a good game. Instead, they decided to not change the asset at all.

At just 99 cents, I didn't have high expectations, and it didn't really surprise me. I played for a short while, unlocked all the achievements (I literally just pressed every letter on my keyboard), and then quit. It's an easy game—oddly creepy for some reason.

Concept of game is really nice, however getting achievements is really easy, Idea of running around for the light is what I like, but it only takes around 30 seconds to finish the game. 4/10
