Noreya: The Gold Project

It's a good metroidvania. Played with an Xbox controller. What you need to know: 1. 3 Difficulty Settings for combat only. 2. Some serious platforming challenges as well as puzzles. 3. There are 2 worlds with some differences. Very important to solving some puzzles and getting the true ending. 4. No double jump. Wall jump, dash, and an easily missable projectile attack needed to hit some buttons. 5. Very little direction about where to go. 6. Not super fast travel, but movement is quick enough especially once you get the dash. After you smash the 12 statues fast travel comes back. I liked the character size on the screen. It made the world feel quite big, but you also move with fluidity. Some of the puzzles were impressive. Its not exceptional, and doesn't have much narrative, Apparently, an ancient king used engraved stone tablet monuments as notepaper. 1 error required an alt-f4. My save was fine. Otherwise stable.

I wouldn't say Noreya is a bad game by any means. For the discounted price I paid, I found it perfectly serviceable. Not that $10 is asking a lot anyway. When the precision platforming sections worked for me, they worked; the combat never really did, however, and as the game progressed, there was a lot more of that than I needed. I know I missed a ton of secrets/achievements, but in the end, I never felt engrossed enough to want to play it anymore. That said, the artwork and music are good, and it has some interesting game mechanics here and there.

Bit of a disappointment. Game looks decent, and the movement is fun, even if sometimes wall jumps can be eaten, overall the movement is the best part. The game is also decent length and has a good amount of boss fights as well as a large map. Thats about it for positives. Combat is not that interesting. You get a few moves but most of them are useless, you just spam attack and thats about it. Theres no block, parry, and dodge has no iframes. Hitboxes can be super wonky. The upgrade system is kind of dumb. The fast travel and upgrade stations you can choose the god you swear to, and it uncovers areas on the map as well as ALLOWS you to put points in their tree. But things like health and damage are on both sides so you'll need both but theres only a few statues so it basically just keeps you from getting very far in either. And even if you wanted to get further, prices of upgrade points go up so quickly unless you farm forever you're not even going to get close to finishing 1 side. Its unique but also not a good idea. Enjoyed this game more than I expected to. Great art design and smooth controls, and the map system is decent. About 10-12 hrs of game time for 100%

Really solid MV. I expected the light/gold world thing to be more significant than it was - in fact I thought it was going to be two different playthroughs based on the demo - it isn't, it's just used as a sort of mirrored world thing to bypass some obstacles related to getting the true ending. Leaving aside that I had a really good time with this. Exploration is solid, although what you can find is somewhat limited, solid skill tree - I enjoyed the story that's told via these steeles you find where you get to learn about the world and the gods. Combat is solid, although there's a bit a discrepancy with very generous healing system in the exploration points and most bosses, while a few bosses just didn't give any oppostunity to heal. Boss fights are overall good and interesting, although one is particularly annoying. Yeah, good game. Not a materpiece by any stretch, but you'll have a good time with it.
