✦ AI summary

Players praise Occultus for its intriguing atmosphere, interesting story twists, and creative hidden object puzzles that offer good variety and challenge. However, the game suffers from significant issues including poor ultrawide monitor support that cuts off screen elements, confusing puzzle logic with inadequate instructions, tedious time-skip mechanics that require repetitive back-and-forth gameplay, and a disappointing plot revelation, making it primarily appealing only to dedicated hidden object game enthusiasts.

Very much intriguing and challenging "Hidden Object" Quest with its own atmosphere and thrill. 'Lot of interesting puzzles to solve and charming places to watch. Enjoy.

Doesn't work on ultra-wide monitors - the top and bottom of the screen are cut off, sometimes including the inventory. There aren't any options for other aspect ratios and turning off full-screen gave me the same ratio but in a tiny window. I thought I soft-locked myself in the intro because I couldn't figure out how to stop the carriage, but it turns out I needed to talk to the driver that was off-screen and could only be seen by right-clicking at the top edge of the screen to zoom in. The hidden object scenes are equally unplayable on ultra-wide for the same reason.

There was some promising stuff in this, but many of the puzzles were nonsense and the instructions frequently were of little help. Also, the final revelation of the bad guys' plot is that it's utterly stupid. Only for truly hardcore fans of the form.

Game mechanics-
Early on the game you are given the power to go from day to night (skip time in ~12h increments). This mechanic loses its novelty pretty fast when the game requires you to do this back and forth several times to fetch items that allow you to continue the story. Sometimes even having to use the hint button because the game doesn't really guide you to the next step or point out in some way that going from day or night will get you on track.
Hidden object scenes and puzzles can be tedious at times and not that fun. Although at the halfway mark some do get a bit better. The voice over was slightly weird with the exception of the main character. I'd say that towards the end the game gets a little better, and things made more sense, it was easier to connect the dots but the ending fell quite flat. The ending:
I do feel like it was r…

This game is... okay. There's nothing stand-out about it, everything is simply... fine. The voice acting is more irritating than anything, however, and the puzzles don't make up for the poor story.

I played the easiest mode and have Windows 10. The game ran smoothly. IMO the game is a bit of a higher difficulty, but you can use the help feature or skip puzzles & mini games. I will definitely replay it. The HOPs were interactive and original which made them interesting and challenging. I recommend for those who like variety. There is a tool that shows you where you have an available action, and lets you jump to it. Since there are a lot of locations, this is a very good thing. There is a help feature. It will also show you which way to walk. You'll have quite a bit of inventory. You can combine things within it. There is a journal.
