Once Upon an All Hallow's Eve is a short free otome visual novel that puts me in the role of Cara Lee, a college student who ends up alone in a dark forest after a landslide separates her from her friends. She eventually finds a strange mansion and has to figure out what is going on with the people living inside. I like the setup because it gives the story a nice Halloween feeling without trying to turn itself into a full horror game. It is more about mystery, romance and finding out what is really happening in the mansion. The story is definitely the main reason I would play this. I am spending most of my time reading dialogue and making choices rather than doing traditional gameplay, but the mansion gives the story enough of a setting to keep me interested. There is a good feeling of not knowing exactly who I can trust, and the different characters give me reasons to explore their personalities instead of just rushing through the main plot. I also like that the game keeps the supernatural side of things fairly mysterious for a while instead of explaining everything immediately.
