About One Day in London

The main characteristic of a visual novel game is achieving immersion by giving the player the ability to influence the story through choices. Every decision, every action the player-reader takes can drastically change the course of the story. The smallest detail can turn out to have an important role to play. In One Day In London you will solve puzzles, perform magical rituals, and carry out special tasks. A sophisticated achievement system will hint at alternative storylines, and a user-friendly save system allows you to move freely within this wonderful story to explore all possible branches.

ATTENTION! The main game includes only the first two chapters. Chapters III through V are sold separately as DLC.

The plot

The story is set in the 19th century England during Queen Victoria’s reign. Our main hero is a bored descendant of an aristocratic family who is fascinated by the occult. He becomes an initiate of a secret society by way of a friend’s invitation – and unexpectedly finds that legends are real. He faces the frightening underworld and becomes an unwilling participant in a series of weird events, sudden deaths, and underhanded machinations among humans, demons, and mystical creatures. Of course, a story can’t be complete without a mysterious lady whose past is shrouded in darkness… What outcome awaits our hero? Only time knows… Time and the player’s choice.

✦ AI summary

Players consistently praise this visual novel for its excellent writing, compelling characters, intriguing themes, and attractive visual art, with multiple branching paths and meaningful choices that lead to varied endings. The main complaint is that it's purely a narrative experience rather than a traditional game, so players seeking substantial gameplay mechanics or interactivity beyond reading will be disappointed. Those who enjoy story-driven experiences with mystery, occult themes, and political intrigue will find it well worth their time.

Why isn't this visual-novel game more well-known? Writing is great, characters are intriguing, themes are interesting, and visual art looks great. Not overly long, but with some meaningful choices and varied outcomes. Props to the team.

It's a shame this game never caught the attention I felt like it deserved. It's been a number of years since I played this game, but thinking back on it I remember being genuinely surprised how much I liked this story. Note that I did not say 'game'. This is a visual novel through and through. There are mini-games, choices, multiple endings and other features of course, but if you're someone who wants a game and not book, they'll need to look elsewhere. For those people who DO enjoy a book, especially of those involve the themes of: - Mystery - Modern(-ish) Occult - Scheming and politics - Straight up demons Then you'll find an enjoyable time here. Sunk 30 hours into this narrative before I saw every end and every achievement and I couldn't think of any kind of issue with the game other than how dated the UI feels. But I'm not sure what you would expect from an almost nine year old game these days. I'd say there is no need to RUSH out and get it, but if you spy it on sale it's worth grabbing if you like Visual Novels.

One Day in London is a story-rich visual novel that combines supernatural horror, detective fiction, and historical fantasy into a compelling interactive adventure. Developed and published by Owl Studio, the game transports players to Victorian England, where ancient myths, occult rituals, and hidden conspiracies lurk beneath the elegance of London's high society. You assume the role of an aristocrat whose fascination with the paranormal unexpectedly draws him into a dangerous secret organization, setting the stage for an adventure filled with mystery, betrayal, and difficult choices. The premise immediately captures attention by blending authentic historical atmosphere with dark fantasy, creating a world that feels both familiar and unsettling. The narrative is unquestionably the game's greatest strength. Rather than presenting a linear story, One Day in London thrives on player agency by allowing decisions to shape conversations, relationships, investigations, and ultimately the fate of its characters. Every choice feels meaningful, encouraging players to think carefully before committing to a particular course of action. This branching structure also gives the game considerable…
