About Our Elusive Suffering

Our Elusive Suffering is a cryptic horror game where you take part in a mysterious blood ritual in an ancient city whose walls are dripping with madness.
Consumed with fear and facing monsters that blur the concept of reality, you will have to find your way in the stuffy fog to finally find a purpose.

Nothing will be explained.
Nothing will be given.
Everything will be figured out, eventually.

"Our Elusive Suffering" is an esoteric action/walking sim (mostlywalking sim but sometimes you have to dodge things) in a distorted, foggy collection of what might be other people's game assets. A little puzzle solving and so on but mostly this falls into the "walking sim" genre. And also the "Steam Direct garbage" genre. The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers. I'm not sure if this is an asset flip, but it's one of those cases where the assets just look much better than the rest of the quality of the game... a glaring inconsistency. There's no evidence, but as always, the biggest problem with asset flips besides the plagiarism is the deplorably low quality of the other aspects of the game, and even if the game assets are genuinely created for the game, the quality of the rest of the game is indistinguishable from that of asset flips. I *love* the concept of being stalked by a titantic monster. I *don't* love literally everything else. The aesthetic is intentionally low-res and murky, the ambush mimics that hunt you are annoying, but worst of all is that if you die, you start all over again from the very beginning. ♥♥♥♥ that. I don't have time for this. That said, it's free, and its interesting. But for my part I got too annoyed to continue after restarting about 4 times. I'll just watch a playthrough.

The game is far too punishing to be fun. When you die at all, you lose all your progress (activated altars) and have to traverse the whole game again to reactivate them. In addition, it's way too easy to die even when you know a ***** is coming. Death can happen randomly, whether you're prepared or not, and resets your entire game progress when it happens. Not fun after the first hour or two. I would recommend: Making it so that altars don't reset UNLESS you get sent back to the beginning (e.g died without a checkpoint). Would make the game easier to digest, slightly more forgiving, and a LOT less frustrating.

i dont mind having to redo things over if i die, but i do mind having a 20 second walk of shame (just holding w) just to try again in a game soley about trial and error
